Listen to Obituary

Rexford Dwight Reagan, 77, a resident of Boise, passed away peacefully at home on September 15, 2026.

Rex was born February 13, 1949, in Boise, Idaho to Dwight and Frances Downer. He was the baby of their three children. When Rex was just three weeks old, his father passed away while on a business trip, leaving their small family devastated. His mother married Lawrence B. Reagan in November 1952 and he was a loving father to Rex and his siblings. When Rex was in sixth grade, the three kids asked Larry to adopt them, and they all officially became Reagans.

When he was small, Rex moved with his family to Livingston, Montana, where his Downer family managed a sawmill. He spoke often of his fond memories living near cousins and his idyllic small-town 1950’s childhood. The family returned to Boise after the sawmill closed. Rex attended South Junior High and spent his summers at South pool behind his house.

This love of swimming was lifelong, and he taught all of his children and grandchildren how to swim. He graduated from Borah High School and Boise State College, where he was a member of the Kiwanis Club.

Rex was introduced to Lindy Lee Winkle by his sister, Judy Gammill, who lived across the street from Lindy’s family in Nampa. His sister said that if he shaved his beard and cut his hair, she would introduce him to the cute girl across the street. So, Rex shaved his beard and cut his hair, and the rest is history. They were married on September 5, 1971, at First United Presbyterian Church of Nampa, Idaho. He was a loving and devoted father to their two daughters, Kimberly and Sarah.

Rex spent the entirety of his career at the Idaho State Controller’s Office. His forty-two years were filled with accomplishment and friendships that made his work life so fulfilling. Rex spent time as the budget and facilities coordinator and worked to prepare the office for natural disasters and Y2K. He was a member of the Association for Governmental Accountants. He rode the city bus to work for many years, and enjoyed lunch with the friends he made there, the “Back of the Bus Bunch.”

Rex and Lindy were active members of Southminster Presbyterian Church in Boise. Rex came to Jesus Christ in this church community, and he was devoted to his friends in Christ. He served as Elder for many years, and he looked forward to lunch dates with his men's group and the Sages, their retired friends from Southminster.

Rex raised pigeons and was an early member of the Idaho Roller Club. He was also involved with the National Birmingham Roller Club. Rex loved to show his own pigeons and serve as a judge at the Western Idaho Fair every year. He also raised white homing pigeons and would release them for weddings and events. Rex loved his friends that he made in the Idaho Roller Club community.

Rex’s first priority was his family. He was the best dad to his two daughters, and he was a sweet and engaged Papa to his four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He loved family vacations to the Oregon Coast and McCall, going to movies, attending soccer games, school presentations, choir concerts and cheer competitions for his grandkids. He loved cooking for his family and gathering for birthdays, holidays, and family dinners. He was a proud Papa and had a heart full of love for his people. He was a gentle giant, and he will leave a hole we will not be able to fill.

Rex is preceded in death by his beloved wife Lindy, his father Rexford Dwight Downer, his adoptive father Lawrence B. Reagan, his mother Frances Reagan, his great-grandson Milo and his brother-in-law Gary Gammill.

He is survived by his brother Ron Reagan (Carol) and his sister Judy Gammill, his daughters Kimberly (Adam) Fuhriman and Sarah Reagan, his grandchildren Calvin (Allison) Fuhriman, Destenee Fuhriman, Thomas Fuhriman, and Isabel Fuhriman, his great-grandchildren Millie, Rhett and Remy Fuhriman, and many cherished nieces and nephews.

He will be dearly missed by all who loved him.
