Raymond Vincent Cardinale
April 16, 1943 – January 31, 2024
Raymond Vincent Cardinale passed away on January 31, 2024 at the age of 80. He passed away peacefully at home in his sleep.
Raymond was born in Cleveland, Ohio with a large extended family, before moving to southern california. He enjoyed many roles…son, little brother, uncle, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend.
In the early ’60s raymond supported his family as a well-known, successful cosmetologist. He worked independently and with his brother, Dominic, where he received multiple awards for artful and creative styles.
In 1972, he moved to Idaho and eventually opened Cardinale and Associates Hair Stylists, which is still in operation today. Raymond was instrumental in the popularity in Idaho of new hairstyle techniques like curling irons and razor cuts. He was the first salon owner/operator to offer “rented space” so cosmetoligists can do business as independent business owners instead of working on a commission for the salon owner. He also had successful salons in Fortuna, California, Post Falls and Coeur d’Alene, Idaho before he retired.
Raymond was a lover of nature, art and lived an unpretentious lifestyle, which prompted him to purchase a small family property in Middleton, Idaho for a slower-paced life. It was during that time that he explored Idaho with weekly hiking trips with his family. He loved road trips and always made it an adventure. His children talk about great memories from these experiences. Because of him, all his children share his love of nature and camping.
Raymond enjoyed the sun-soaked beaches of Southern California and appreciated the rugged beauty of the Northern California coastline. He loved whale-watching, beachcombing and loved to stop at Botchies Crab Stand on the way home. In addition to camping in the Redwoods, he spent alot of time tide pooling in Crescent City, Gold Beach, Cannon Beach and Yachats. Something that brought Raymond joy was to drive to independence point and spend hours watching a sunrise or sunset off the beauty of the lake.
He had several hobbies – he loved to fish, ride motorcycles and atv’s with his youngest son, Keaton. He enjoyed guns and spending time shooting targets or clay pigeons with his sons. He played the guitar and trumpet well and Frank and Patty spent many musical evenings singing and laughing with dad.
He was a talented artist, and passionate about painting and drawing, and over the years amassed an extensive collection of his artworks to pass on. His love of art, beauty, life and freedom is reflected in his art.
He was preceded in death by his father and mother Frank and Sadie Cardinale. His brother, Dominic Cardinale, his beloved grandparents, and his grandson Aaron, his beloved niece Teresa and a great-niece Sophia. He is survived by his brother and sister-in-law Frank and Zena Cardinale and by Judy Cardinale, his sister-in-law. He is also survived by his children – Frank Cardinale, Patricia (Patty) Massie (Jeff Massie), Lori Ellis, Jasmine Cardinale (Wes Stults) and Keaton Cardinale (Erika Cardinale) – who love and will miss him dearly. His grandchildren, who always brought him joy and pride – Nicholas Coe of Arizona, Jacob Coe (Lisa Hansen) of Idaho, Taylor Coe (Laurel Millard) of Arizona, Kayla Ellis (Benjamin Chavez) of Oregon, Nicholaus Bulgar, Jr (Ryen Kirking), Madison and Carson Stults, Porter and Rene Young, Bella Mia and Cecelia Skye Cardinale, all of Idaho. He took much joy in his large family, including his great-grandchildren Vivie and Avery Coe, Lola Hansen, Zion Wolfe and many beloved nieces and nephews. Raymond loved looking at social media to see his family growing and building their lives. He always said they were so beautiful.
Life was made for Raymond Cardinale. He was dealt some great hands and some bad hands, but he always enjoyed the people around the table with him. He was charismatic, kind and loving. If you knew Raymond, you loved him, and if he knew you, he loved you. He will be sorely missed.
A private indoor/outdoor Celebration of Life will be held for friends and family.
Arrangements are under the direction of Bowman Funeral Parlor of Garden City.
