Ralph D. Crosgrove, 83, of Star, Idaho, passed away surrounded by his loving family. He was born on July 30, 1942, in Murray, Utah, to Donal Earl Crosgrove and Marjorie Lou (Dunyon) Crosgrove. Ralph was raised in Draper, Utah, on a poultry farm where he was taught the value of hard work tending to thousands of chickens. Vacations were few and far between. The family was close because they worked together every day on the farm. He had many happy memories riding his horse with friends in Corner Canyon. Ralph attended Draper Elementary, Mount Jordan Jr. High, and graduated from Jordan High School in the Class of 1960. He later continued his education at Salt Lake City Electronics School.
Ralph married the love of his life, Marlys Young, on July 14, 1961, in Sandy, Utah. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Idaho Falls Temple on July 21, 1978. Together they built a life centered on faith, family, service, and joyful adventure. They made their home in Seattle, Washington, Draper, Utah, and ultimately in Star, Idaho, where they settled in 1972 and have remained since. In Star they found property for horses and an old American four-square farmhouse that they spent three years remodeling.
Ralph worked for Boeing Aircraft Company before beginning a long career with Mosler Safe Company and Diebold. He started his career in the bank security business in service then became a salesman which allowed him to flourish using his people skills. He enjoyed using his personal airplane to cover his large sales territory of Idaho, Montana, Wyoming and eastern Washington and Oregon. He was a dedicated and hardworking provider, known for integrity, ingenuity, and determination.
Ralph had a love for the outdoors and was happiest when sharing experiences with family. He enjoyed flying, camping, hunting, horseback riding, fishing, golf, skiing, gardening, raising horses and cattle, traveling, and jet-boating. More than any hobby or achievement, Ralph cherished time with his family. He found joy in creating lasting memories, especially through trips, shared adventures, and time spent together. Ralph had a great sense of humor and a quick whit. His children sought every opportunity to spend time with him and be together as a family.
A devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Ralph served faithfully in many callings throughout his life. One of his most cherished experiences was the 18-month mission he served in the Philippines Angeles Mission with his sweetheart, Marlys, from 2010–2011. He also served his community as a volunteer firefighter and was involved with the Aircraft Owners & Pilots Association, Experimental Aircraft Association, and the Emmett Lateral Association.
Ralph is survived by his wife of 64 years, Marlys Young Crosgrove; his children: Shawn Ralph (Lori), Curtis Morgan (Kimberly), Ryan Rigby (Paola), and Kimber Crosgrove Kraus (Kody); his brother, Chad D. Crosgrove (Bobbi); his sister, Jill Crosgrove Hardman (Marrel, deceased); 6 grandsons, 5 granddaughters, and 5 great-grandchildren, with more sure to come. He was preceded in death by his parents, Donal and Marjorie Crosgrove, and his brother, Donald Glade Crosgrove.
