Phyllis Marie Parker

Phyllis Marie Parker was born in Bedison, Missouri, on April 30, 1933, to Henry and Bessie Hansen.  She was greeted by her older sister Joan.  Phyllis’ parents owned a mercantile country store which at one time bought and sold grain, delivered coal in the winter, and pumped gasoline and kerosine for the cars and machinery to the rural community surrounding Bedison.  She was raised by her loving parents and was surrounded by a strong caring Christian community of neighbors and friends.

She attended Graceland College in Lamoni, Iowa, and was noticed by her future husband Barney Parker while riding her bicycle across campus.  He was immediately smitten with her and they married on August 2, 1953.  They had three children: David, Mark, and Jane.  Phyllis was devoted to raising her children and supporting her husband throughout his career.  They lived in multiple locations as Barney advanced his career in school administration: Marsing, Idaho, Puerto Rico, Creston, Iowa, Galesburg, Illinois and finally settling in Boise, Idaho.

After Barney retired as Superintendent of Boise School District, she and Barney enjoyed wintering in Palm Springs, California, and playing tennis at the Palm Springs Tennis Club where Phyllis made a lot of dear friends.

Phyllis was preceded in death by her husband and daughter.

She will be missed by her sons David (Shelly) and Mark (Marianne), her grandchildren Cortney, Tyler, DJ (Ashley) and Jace; Breanna (Aaron) and Peyton (Danna), and the many friends she made over the years.  She was also blessed with six great grandchildren.

Arrangements are under the direction of Bowman Funeral Parlor of Garden City.
