Peter Herbert Teipelke

1/17/1940 – 12/8/2024

Peter Herbert Teipelke, beloved father, grandfather, great grandfather, great-great grandfather, and friend quietly returned home to his Heavenly Father on December 8, 2024 at the age of 84. Born on January 17, 1940, Peter lived a remarkable life filled with resilience, love, and laughter.

Peter’s story began in East Germany where he endured the hardships of a war-torn country. After finishing school at the tender age of just 14, he entered into trade school in Culinary Arts to become a Chef. At only 18, seeking freedom and opportunity, Peter escaped East Germany by himself and enlisted as a cook in the Merchant Marines in West Germany showing the determination and work ethic that would define his life. At 19, with the dream of a new life, he applied for and received his visa to come to the United States to join his mother, step father, and sister.

A skilled Chef, Peter delighted members of private country clubs across the country with his culinary talents. He took immense pride in his work and was known for his dedication to excellence. Beyond his profession, Peter was a man of impeccable style, always presenting himself as the true gentleman he was. His warm smile, hearty laugh, and heart of pure gold left an indelible mark on everyone who knew him.

Peter’s life was filled with vibrant passions. He adored Christmas, relishing the opportunity to share the joy and abundance of the season with his loved ones—a sharp contrast to the deprivations of his early years. Though he was famously unable to keep a gift a secret, his excitement to give was contagious. He also loved stock car racing, traveling with his family, dancing, concerts, and spending time with his dear friends at the Meridian Senior Center, never missing a Sunday brunch. He will be remembered as an honorable man, a hardworking provider, and a steadfast friend. Though his German stubbornness was legendary, so too was his generosity and love for those he held dear.

In honoring Peter’s life, may we carry forward his example of resilience, kindness, and an unshakeable commitment to family and friends. His legacy lives on in the love he inspired in those around him.

Peter was preceded in death by his cherished wife Martha, his grandmother Elsa (Mutti) Fischer, his parents Bruno Teipelke and Irmgard Bryan, and his sister Liane Teipelke-Godin.

He is survived by his loving children David Teipelke (Kathy) and Liane Niles. His seven wonderful grandchildren, Peter Teipelke (Amanda), Crystal Smith, Robert Teipelke (Danielle), Mark Teipelke (Marjorie), Matthew Teipelke, Marie Ladouceur (Ryan), and Ryker Niles. In addition, sixteen great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. All of whom he was so very proud.
