Patricia Dianne Carson Slade
October 22, 1949 – February 25, 2025
Patricia Dianne Carson Slade, beloved daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 25, 2025 at the age of 75.
Dianne was born on October 22, 1949, in Gallup, New Mexico, the first child of Richard William “Cub” and Coy LoRee Carson. She spent her childhood on the Navajo Reservation, where her parents ran a trading post. Her early education was at the Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA) school. As a senior in high school, Dianne faced a challenging diagnosis of kidney disease, which kept her from attending much of her final year, but she cherished the special experience of going to prom with her father. She graduated from Gallup High School in 1967.
Dianne was baptized into The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 1958, following her parents’ conversion. After high school, she moved to Utah for further education and eventually attended Brigham Young University, where she met the love of her life, LeGrand Anderson Slade. They were sealed in marriage on September 10, 1970, beginning a beautiful journey together.
Dianne and LeGrand built a loving home, first in Red Mesa, Colorado, where they welcomed Jason and Tricia, and then in Gallup, New Mexico, where their family grew to include Marie, Scott, and Lynn. Dianne was deeply involved in her community—serving in the PTA, church organizations, and various other causes. She gave her heart to every church calling and found joy in serving others.
In the mid-1980s, Dianne and LeGrand became certified instructors in self-esteem training, traveling across New Mexico to help educators and community members recognize their self-worth. Their message resonated widely, and their workshops were always filled to capacity.
In 1990, the family moved to Gilbert, Arizona, where they thrived. At age 45, Dianne was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease, a challenge she met with unwavering faith, humor, and resilience. In 2006, she and LeGrand moved to Star, Idaho, where they continued to serve and bless the lives of those around them. Together, they served three missions for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints—one in Sharon, Vermont (the birthplace of Joseph Smith), another in Indianapolis, Indiana, and a third at the Boise State University Institute of Religion.
A testament to her strength, Dianne received a life-changing kidney transplant in December 2018, which improved her quality of life. Despite the health challenges she endured, she never let them define her. Her greatest joy, second only to her sweetheart LeGrand, was her grandchildren. She treasured every visit, every card game, and every moment she could share with them, always cheering them on as their biggest fan.
Dianne was a woman of many talents. She loved to sew, plant and arrange flowers, and create beauty in everything she touched. She had a quick wit, a sharp sense of humor, and an adventurous spirit—she especially loved to drive fast (using both feet!) and travel as much as her health allowed. Above all, she was a warm and welcoming presence, a source of wisdom, love, and laughter for all who knew her. Even as her disease progressed, people continued to turn to her for guidance, comfort, and a listening ear.
Dianne is preceded in death by her parents, Cub and Coy Carson; her sister, Elizabeth Carson Saline; and her granddaughter, Olivia Kate Slade.
She is survived by her eternal companion, LeGrand Slade; her children, Jason (Tasha), Patricia (Matthew), Marie (Travis), Scott (Brittany), and Lynn (Jake); her beloved grandchildren, Devan (Paul) Thomas, Cayden, Avery, and Abby Slade; Jocilyn, McKenna, and Maesyn Gibbens; Hunter (Sydney), Gwendalin, Tyler, and Dallin Chesley; Jackson, Dyson, Lincoln, Noah, and Boston Slade; and Annabelle, Jack, Anderson, and Theo Halladay. She is also survived by her sisters, Kathy Carson and Debbie (Norman) Taylor, as well as many extended family members and dear friends.
Dianne lived a life of faith, love, and service. She faced trials with courage and found joy in every stage of life. Though she will be deeply missed, her legacy of kindness, humor, and unwavering love will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing her.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday March 15, 11am with a viewing beforehand from 10-10:45 at 9400 W. Floating Feather Rd, Star, ID 83669
