Garden City

Pamela Jane Eck, 76, of Garden City, passed away on May 25th, 2025. Pam was the youngest of seven children and was born on August 27, 1948 in Christopher, IL to John and Hattie Tomkins. After a short time in Illinois, the family moved to Butte, MT where she attended school and graduated from Butte High School.

During her high school years, she met Dwight Eck and they were married in Butte on June 5th, 1965. Pam and Dwight soon welcomed their first son Curtis and in September of 1968, they welcomed Jeffrey and Jason to the family. During their first 8 years of marriage, Pam and Dwight lived in Butte, Wolf Creek, Missoula, Great Falls, Idaho Falls and also spent a year in Fort Walton Beach, FL.

Pam and Dwight made the move to Boise in December of 1973 and called it home for the next 50+ years. Pam was very involved in her children’s activities and was never shy to step in to lead as a volunteer, Cub Scout leader or cheerleader for the athletic activities of her sons. As the boys got older, she decided to go back to school to become a teacher. She graduated from Boise State University in 1983 with a degree in Elementary Education (Magna Cum Laude) and began a career that became a passion in the West Ada School District. Pam had a constant desire for learning and attended summer classes for many years, earning her Master’s Degree in Education. She was also honored to be named Teacher of the Year for the West Ada School District. She showed genuine interest on the future paths of her students and was touched by so many that stayed in contact with her into their adult lives.

Pam decided to retire from teaching in 2007. She also welcomed her grandson Gage in 2007 and quickly found a new passion. She was extremely proud to watch him graduate from high school two days before her death and was looking forward to seeing him head to the University of Idaho in the fall.

Pam is survived by her husband Dwight, son Curtis and daughter-in-law Toni Lawson, sons Jeff and Jason along with her grandson Gage. She is also survived by her sisters Julia Stillman and Kay Mullholland.

She was preceded in death by her parents John and Hattie, brothers Norman and Gene, sister Marlene and an infant sister, Beverley Sue.
