Orval Ray Taylor, 67, of Meridian, Idaho, passed away on May 29, 2026. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, son in law, brother, friend, healthcare professional, outdoors man, and lifelong learner. Orval lived a life dedicated to serving others and embracing every opportunity for knowledge and adventure.
Orval was born on May 2, 1959, in Ontario, Oregon, to Delbert Winfield Taylor and Orva Rita Tullis Taylor. He spent his early years in Idaho and developed a deep appreciation for the outdoors, hard work, and education that would remain with him throughout his life.
He attended Nampa High School and continued his education at Lewis-Clark State College, the University of Idaho, and Creighton University. His academic accomplishments reflected his diverse interests and determination, earning degrees in Criminal Justice, Nursing, and Wildlife Biology.
Throughout his life, Orval pursued a career centered on helping others. He served as a fire medic with Cascade Rural Fire District and worked as an emergency nurse at Cascade Medical Center, Saint Alphonsus Regional Medical Center, and Pullman Regional Hospital. While working toward his college degrees, he also spent time employed at the Potlatch paper mill, demonstrating the strong work ethic that defined him throughout his life.
On March 25, 2003, Orval married the love of his life, Penny Sue Tryborn Taylor, in Las Vegas, Nevada. Together they built a life filled with love, family, and shared adventures.
Orval called many Idaho communities home throughout his life, including Nampa, Parma, Moscow, Kendrick, Lewiston, Caldwell, and most recently Meridian.
Outside of his professional career, Orval found great joy in the outdoors. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, hiking, camping, and shooting. He was passionate about history, reading, wildlife, and lifelong learning. Whether exploring the wilderness, studying a new subject, or sharing stories with family and friends,
Orval approached life with curiosity, enthusiasm, and a desire to make the most of every day.
Orval is survived by his beloved wife, Penny Taylor of Meridian, Idaho; his son, Leon Taylor of Nampa, Idaho, his daughter, Morgan Taylor of Meridian Idaho; his stepson, Mitchell (Emina) Gulbis of Meridian, Idaho; his sister, Lisa Norris of Spokane, Washington, his father-in law Peter Tryborn of Boise, Idaho, his sister-in-law Deborah Buus, his sister-in-law Patricia Jorgensen and brother-in law Thomas Jorgensen of Meridian Idaho, his brother-in law Rob Tryborn of Boise Idaho, and his cherished grandchildren, Sophia, Emmette, and Jazmyn Taylor. Orval leaves behind their family dog, Addie, and cat, Bailey. He is also survived by numerous extended family members and friends whose lives were enriched by his kindness, wisdom, and friendship.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Delbert and Orva Taylor; his sister, Melody Hunter; his mother-in-law, Beverly Tryborn; his brother-in-law, David Buus; his cousin by marriage, Jack McGonagle, and numerous other lovingextended family members.
Orval will be remembered for his compassionate heart, dedication to serving others, love of family, and deep appreciation for the outdoors and learning. His legacy lives on in the many lives he touched and in the memories shared by those who knew and loved him.
A funeral service will be held, 12:00 pm, Friday, June 12, 2026 at Bowman Funeral Parlor, 10254 W. Carlton Bay Dr., Garden City, Idaho. A committal service will follow at Dry Creek Cemetery, 9600 Hill Rd., Boise, Idaho.
Celebration of Life to follow the committal service 3:00 pm - 6:00 pm, at Courtyard by Marriott Boise West/Meridian, 1789 South Eagle Rd., Meridian, Idaho, 83642.
