Nola Emmarine Miller, the cherished second child of a loving family, was born on November 19, 1945, in Lost River Valley. Her early years were spent in the serene hills, where she and her sister, Wyoma, embraced a childhood filled with the joys of herding sheep. Memories of summer nights spent sleeping on the cool floor of their home, with the door left open for a gentle breeze, remain dear to those who knew her.

One unforgettable childhood tale showcases Nola's adventurous spirit and innocence. On one of those warm summer nights, she and Wyoma were peacefully sleeping, only to be awakened by what they thought was their beloved dog. In a playful spirit, they began fussing and swatting at the creature, trying to shoo it away. However, their efforts proved futile, and their mother, concerned about the commotion, asked their father to investigate. As he lit a lamp and approached the scene, he was met with an amusing and bewildering sight: rather than their dog, the girls had been swatting at a curious porcupine! With a chuckle, he instructed both girls to pull the blanket over their heads, reminding them that the creature they were trying to shoo away was not a pet but a wild animal. This lighthearted memory reflects the warmth and laughter that filled Nola's childhood and the close-knit bond she shared with her family.

As a young girl, Nola developed a deep love for horses, often helping her father in the fields, while also discovering her passion for cooking and baking alongside her mother. When the time came for education, Nola and Wyoma transitioned to Moore to begin their schooling, later taking a bus to Arco to attend high school as proud Butte County Pirates. Determined to make a difference in the world, Nola pursued a career in nursing, earning her LPN and serving at the Arco Hospital. Her journey eventually led her to Boise, where she worked for St. Luke’s Downtown. Eager to further her career, she returned to school to obtain her RN degree, demonstrating her commitment to her profession and the well-being of her patients.

It was during her time at the hospital that she met Brian Miller, who, while working as security, stopped her one day as she hurried through the parking lot. What began as a brief encounter blossomed into a meaningful relationship, culminating in their marriage in 1972. Though their paths eventually diverged in 1984, their bond of friendship endured throughout the years.

Nola’s dedication to her nursing career was evident in her work, particularly in the Oncology department, as well as in cardiac care and intensive care units. Her kindness and compassion left an indelible mark on the lives of her patients and their families.

Beyond her professional life, Nola reveled in adventure and cherished moments with loved ones. A memorable trip to Alaska allowed her to witness the breathtaking beauty of Denali, an experience she treasured. She also enjoyed hunting for deer with family and friends, embracing the camaraderie and joy those moments brought.

Nola is survived by her beloved nieces, Jami Grasmick (Bobby) and Sharon Walbridge (Malcolm), along with her great-nieces and great-nephews: JR Grasmick, Crystal Craig (Chris), Alex Ham (Caleb), Brandon Walbridge (Melissa), Brittney Walbridge (Michael), and numerous great-great-nieces and nephews. She held a special affection for the newest additions to the family, the triplets, whom she considered more like grandchildren.

Nola Emmarine Miller will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her legacy of kindness, friendship, and dedication to her family and profession will forever remain in the hearts of those she touched.
