With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Nicholas “Nick” Robert Koontz at age 67 on March 7, 2026. Nick fought a short, yet courageous battle with a rare and aggressive cancer. He was born in Florida on May 7, 1958, but moved to Boise when he was 1 year old where he grew up and spent a majority of his life. After serving in the Marine Corps a little over 3 years, he moved around a few other places before settling back in Boise. Nick is leaving behind a legacy defined by integrity, loyalty, and a life lived with purpose.
Nick will be remembered as a compassionate and steady presence in the lives of everyone who knew him. He made himself available to listen to others’ struggles without judgment, offering patience, understanding, and quiet strength. He had a rare gift for making people feel comfortable sharing both their hardest moments and their happiest times, and his friendships were built on trust, sincerity, and genuine care.
Throughout his life, Nick faced challenges that tested his strength and character, yet he met each obstacle with resilience and determination. Rather than allowing hardships to define him, he grew through them, becoming an even more empathetic and supportive person to those around him. His perseverance shaped a life marked not only by personal growth but by a deep commitment to lifting others when they needed it most.
Nick built a distinguished 35-year career in real estate in Boise, where he became known as one of the most dependable and respected professionals in his field. He approached his work with dedication and pride, earning a reputation for honesty, consistency, and an unwavering work ethic. Those who knew him often said that when Nick gave his word, it was as good as done.
Beyond his professional life, Nick embraced the things he loved with equal passion: fly fishing, tennis, concerts and travel.
He was an avid fly fisherman who found peace and fulfillment on the water, a pursuit reflecting his appreciation for patience, precision, and the beauty of the outdoors. His love for fishing took him on memorable adventures beyond the United States, including cherished trips to Belize where he was valued as both a trusted travel companion and fishing partner. Friends recall these journeys as treasured memories filled with laughter, camaraderie, and Nick’s steady and reliable presence.
He spent many hours on the tennis court and became a huge part of the tennis community both on and off the court.
He also had a deep love for classic rock music and brought that passion to life by attending more than 300 concerts over the years. Music was a constant source of joy and reflected the enthusiasm and energy he carried into his relationships and experiences.
Above all, Nick will be remembered as a loyal and dependable friend, partner, and a devoted father whose love, guidance, and steady presence that meant everything to his family and friends. Those closest to him describe him as one of the finest and most genuine individuals one could hope to know — a man whose character, kindness, and devotion left a lasting impression on everyone he met; and whose sarcasm and humor always left people smiling.
Nick’s legacy is one of trust, friendship, and unwavering reliability. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him and fondly remembered through the countless lives he touched and the memories he leaves behind.
Nick is survived by his Children: Andrew Koontz and Madison Koontz, Partner: Cindy Biedebach, Mom: Janeen Daly, Brother: Kurt Koontz and Sister: Shawna McFarlane (Pat).
Nick was preceded in death by his Dad: Robert J. Koontz
