Newton Leonard Norman II

Newton Leonard Norman II, born on June 7, 1932 in Vera, Texas, moved to heaven on September 20, 2024.  He was the son of Newton Leonard and Elsie (Jones) Norman.  He graduated from Munday High School with honors, and later joined the Army where he served four years.

Following his military service he and a buddy decided to earn money to go to college.  They found an opportunity to work on oil rigs in Hardin, Montana.  While in Hardin he found the love of his life, Mary Lou (Louise) Milmine.  Mary Lou was a widow with two little girls.  Newt always said he fell in love with her two girls long before he knew he wanted to spend the rest of his life with her.  They were quickly married on August 21, 1956 and celebrated 65 wonderful years together.   They were blessed with four children, (Linda, Vikki, Len, and Mike), eleven grandchildren, and sixteen great grandchildren.

Newt and Mary Lou moved their ready-made family to Lubbock, Texas, where he enrolled at Texas Tech University.  After four years at TTU Newt earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Physics and was then asked to join a team at McDonald Douglass Aerospace Company in Southern California.  Newt was able to begin his career on the ground level in the aeronautics industry where he advanced in working on the space programs that eventually helped in landing the first man on the moon.  From his small beginnings Newt was able to work on many programs and was always so grateful for the opportunities that took place in his career.  Before Newt retired, his last assignment was a position at Waxahachie, Texas, working on the Superconducting Super Collider.

Newt and Mary Lou shared many adventures during their life together.  They were active in Scouts, Baseball, Football, and camping-fishing with all the family.  Many great memories were made and cherished.  Although Newt stayed busy with his career, he and Mary Lou ventured out and bought into many “projects.”  They built a booming business selling Shaklee products, they also bought a grocery store, a computer store, a restaurant, and planted a vineyard.  They always had their hands in something, but they agreed their most rewarding venture, besides their family, was their rededication to The Lord Jesus Christ.   God and the church became the main purpose in their life together. They started a satellite ministry which helped spread God’s word to the community, as well as, offered a two-year bible college, which they both hosted and were students; earning a Certificate in Leadership and Bible Education.

Newt lived a rich-full life, and always gave God the glory for all the opportunities he was given in his life.  He will be missed beyond measure.  His loving spirit and gift for talking about “entanglement” will live on and on.  God kept this amazing man, husband, father, and grandfather here on earth long enough to make a tremendous difference in each person he knew and met, and for that we say, “Thank you Lord.”

Newt was proceeded in death by his parents, siblings, his wife, (Mary Lou), his daughter, (Linda Swanson), and two daughters-in-law, (Tina and Lisa Norman).

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm, on Monday, September 30, 2024, at Bowman Funeral Parlor, 10254 W. Carlton Bay Dr. in Garden City, with visitation beginning at 1:00 pm.  A private burial will take place at the Idaho State Veterans Cemetery in Boise.
