Meridian, Idaho – Nancy Snowball Lawson passed away on December 30, 2024 at the age of 76. She was born on October 3, 1948 to Morrell and Ruth Snowball as the third of 5 daughters in Long Beach, California. Nancy often shared fond memories of her experiences growing up in a musical home. After graduating from BYU with a degree in speech and communication, she chose to serve a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving in the Argentina South Mission. After her time in Argentina, she married Doug Lawson in the Los Angeles Temple, whom she first met while they were both serving their missions. They were fortunate to meet up again in Provo after being set up for their first date. Doug and Nancy were blessed to be able to start their family quickly with their son Jon, followed by their other four beloved children, Megan, Nicole, Tonja, then Dave. They celebrated their 51 st anniversary this past August.
Nancy enjoyed the changing of the seasons and loved to generously decorate her home for each holiday throughout the year. She was an avid reader and loved music. Various neighbors asked her to open the windows when she played the piano and sang so they could more easily enjoy hearing her talents. Nancy was fond of crafts and found time over the years to cross-stitch, tole paint, and decorate cakes. She had an in-depth knowledge and memory of Church history. Nancy served four full-time senior missions for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints with Doug, two in Argentina and two in Chile. She spent seven years of her life in South America.
Nancy and Doug were fortunate enough to travel extensively, but she was happiest when they returned and she was able to enjoy her lovely home. After the many visits they made to so many friends and acquaintances, she always said “I really like them” once they were back alone in the car. Nancy was also very competitive. When playing family card and board games, her behavior had to be closely monitored by her kids and grandchildren.
Nancy is survived by her husband, Douglas Rex Lawson, and their five children, Jon (Kathy), Megan (Chris), Nicole (Greg), Tonja (Adam), and Dave (Ash), 18 grandchildren, and her sisters, Chris (Dick), Cindy (Dave), and Betsy (Bob). Her oldest sister Barbara (Terry) predeceased her.
Nancy’s funeral will be held at La Mirada Ward, 6650 North Meridian Road, Meridian, Idaho 83642, at 11 am Mountain Time on Saturday, January 11th.
