Nancy Jean Grigsby

It is with heartfelt sadness that the family of Nancy Bajovich Grigsby, 79, of Boise, Idaho, announce her unexpected passing on August 23, 2025.

Nancy grew up in Butte, Montana with her three siblings and parents, and attended the University of Montana. She moved to San Francisco, CA where she met her husband Michael L. Grigsby. Nancy and Michael spent the early years of their marriage in Butte and then moved to Boise, Idaho with their three children in 1976. While raising their children, they loved to travel and spend time outdoors. Nancy was an involved mother dedicating time to her children’s education and activities.

Nancy worked in various departments with the State of Idaho, retiring from the Idaho Department of Education. Beyond work, Nancy loved reading, working around her home and yard, spending time with family and friends and giving generously of her time to volunteer at several organizations. Her sister, Susan, was her best friend and they enjoyed time together frequently.

Her life was a reflection of love, service, empathy, and grace, values she and her husband lived out for more than fifty years. Through her example of compassion and quiet strength, she inspired her children and grandchildren to give back, stand up for themselves and others, and lead with kindness. She reminded her children that “people will see your actions, not your intentions” and to “do what is right, not just what’s easy.”

She is survived by her three children and their families, Lisa Grigsby-Kensel of Portland, Oregon, Michael J. Grigsby of Boise, Idaho and Mark Grigsby of Snohomish, Washington; and her sister Susan Bajovich of Boise, Idaho. She dearly loved her five grandchildren and her great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her husband Michael L. Grigsby, parents Dan and Ruby Bajovich, and brothers Daniel and David Bajovich.

A service to honor Nancy’s life will be held on Friday, October 17, 2025, at 2:00 pm at the Idaho State Veterans Cemetery- Boise. Family and friends are welcome to attend.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Idaho Humane Society, https://idahohumanesociety.org/, the Boise VA Medical Center Volunteer Office, https://www.va.gov/boise-health-care/work-with-us-/volunteer-or-donate/, the Retired Educators Association of Boise, https://www.idahoretirededucators.org/ or a charity of your choice.
