Boise

Michael “Mike” Wayne Huffaker, 75, passed away on October 9, 2025, in Boise, Idaho.

Born on August 21, 1950 in Tokyo, Japan to parents Wayne and Barbara. After returning to the United States, he attended Mountain Home High School where he was known as a talented golfer and basketball player and was the 1968 senior class president. In 1967, Mike won the Mountain Home Golf Club Championship.

After High School, he pursued higher education at the University of Idaho, where he earned a Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering—a field that reflected his analytical mind and dedication to building lasting foundations.

Mike served his country with honor as a Second Lieutenant in the United States Air Force as an Electronics Systems Officer stationed in Texas, Mississippi, and Montana. After his service, he worked for several engineering firms including Morrison-Knudsen and Bechtel. Two noteworthy projects he contributed to were the Trans-Alaskan Pipeline and Yucca Mountain Nuclear Waste Repository.

Mike shared a deep and enduring bond with his late wife, Laura Jarvis, whom he met and married in 1982. Their partnership was one of mutual respect and affection. Together they raised their son Michael David whose curiosity and passion for mathematics and science were nurtured by his father's encouragement and support. Michael took great pride in watching his son grow into adulthood and build a life with his wife Kristina.

Outside of work and family, Michael found joy on the golf course—particularly at Warm Springs Golf Course in Boise. The game offered him both challenge and relaxation, and it became one of his favorite pastimes.

Family remained central to Mike's world. He is also remembered by his brother Karl, with whom he shared lifelong ties and their work in civil engineering. Mike was preceded in death by his youngest brother Jon of Kodak, TN and wife Laura. Mike will be remembered for his kindness and steadfast love for those closest to him. May his memory bring comfort to those who knew him.
