Maximillian “Max” J. Becker, 94, of Boise, passed away December 24, 2023.

Max J Becker started his journey on this Earth on March 5, 1929 on Long Island, New York.  After turning 18, he enlisted in the United States Army, attended basic training and was stationed in Japan.  In 1950, while in Japan, his journey took him to South Korea, landing at Inchon for the start of the Korean War. After enduring bitter cold and being wounded, he survived combat earning a Purple Heart and some memorable stories.

The next stop in his journey brought him back to New York where he married his first wife, Lucille, and had 5 children…Robert, Sandy, Joyce, Dawn and Maxine.  The marriage ended and although Max didn’t have the relationships he would have liked with his children, he loved them very much every day for the rest of his life.

Max worked in the boat and marine industry on Long Island, even owning his own business, Smithtown Marine, at one point.  It was during this time that he met his second and final wife, Susan.  Max was offered a job in Florida, so with Susan accompanying him, they set off on the journey to the land of sunshine.

Max and Susan married in November of 1969 and they bought their first Corvette, They never dreamt that Max would become a father for the 6 th time, but they welcomed their daughter, Ellen. Max’s journey meandered in Florida for 28 years.  He again worked in the marine industry, then for the City of Miami Beach and finally in security.  He enjoyed the camaraderie of the Veterans of Foreign Wars among other civic organizations.  Then one day Susan looks at Max and asks, “Want to move to Idaho?” So off they go, on a new adventure that brought them to Boise in 1997.

The journeys in Idaho were ones filled with adventure and exploration. One of his favorite drives was to Idaho City, another was to Silver City.  Max and Susan finally got another Corvette and joined the Valley Corvette Club, which became like family to them.  Max loved to tell people that the club was so much more than just people driving cars, that it gave back to the community and supported the most amazing charities. Max and Susan traveled many miles in complete happiness.

Sadly, Susan passed away in 2021 and took a large part of Max with her.

Max’s journey ended on December 24, 2023,  when he joined the love of his life on their next adventurous journey together.  I bet its in a new Corvette.

Max is survived by his children, Robert, Sandy, Joyce, Dawn, Maxine and Ellen, his 10 grandchildren, brother Albert and sister Ann.

Welcomed into his next journey by his parents, Maximillian and Louise, his beloved wife, Susan and his sister, Emily among other loved ones that went before him.
