Matthew Elliott Edwards was born in San Jose, California, on September 7, 1964, to Leroy and Helen Edwards. Matt was the third of four children. When he was a baby, the family moved to Anchorage, Alaska, and in 1968, they moved again to Soldotna, Alaska, where they spent the next l5 years.
Matt attended schools in Soldotna and graduated from Soldotna High School in 1983. He was a good student and in grade school was part of the gifted and talented programs. He was involved in Little League and ice hockey and later became a member of the high school swimming and diving team. After graduation, he attended Idaho State University in Pocatello for a while and eventually moved to Boise. He worked as a cook, a gardener, a retail store clerk, and later became a locksmith, where he spent the rest of his working years. He owned and operated White Knight Locksmith and did most of his work in the Treasure Valley.
In 1992, he married Treva Aragon, and they later became the proud parents of two daughters, Jordan Marie and Peyton Nicole. The family spent many happy days in Warren, Idaho, and enjoyed good times with good friends like Mark and Vanessa Martinez, and many others. Though Matt and Treva eventually divorced, they remained friends and both took an active part in their daughters’ lives. Matt played softball, was an avid golfer and bowler, loved to barbecue, enjoyed crossword and jigsaw puzzles, and was a great reader and particularly enjoyed anything written by Steven King. He was also a dedicated fan of MASH, Star Wars, and Boise State’s football team. He loved to travel and spent time with his brothers in the Far East and Central America. He and his siblings own property in Belize where they have been lovingly building a vacation home.
Matt will be missed by a family and friends who loved him very much. He is survived by his daughters, Jordan Edwards, Peyton Gibson, and son-in-law Michel Gibson, all of Boise, as well as his parents, Leroy (Roy) and Helen Edwards, sister Stephanie Wachi and sister-in-law Teresa Valdez, all of Salt Lake City, and brothers Monte Edwards of Portland, and Darren Edwards of San Diego..
There will be a graveside service at Dry Creek Cemetery on May 4 th at 11:00 a.m., followed by a Celebration of Life gathering at Honalee Farms in Eagle, Idaho, at 7010 W. Moon Valley Road. Everyone who knew and loved him will be welcomed.
