Mary Lou Moon, the woman we called mother, mom and mama, passed away on September 13, 2024, in Boise, Idaho. She was born October 5, 1936, in Ogden, Utah, to Coelin Arvilla Ross and Lawrence Allen Holbrook.
As a child, mom moved around a lot because her dad followed available employment. Those places included Ogden, Utah; Vale, Oregon; Boise and Meridian, Idaho; and Livingston, Montana. She graduated from Park High School in Livingston and shortly after, met Presley Don Moon. They were married April 22, 1955, in the Salt Lake Utah Temple. They made their home in Kearns, Utah, and in 1962, moved to Boise.
Mom was a lifelong member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and faithfully served in organizations of the church. She was a teacher and leader in Primary, Young Women, and Relief Society. She started a monthly luncheon group called “Somthing Special” for older sisters in her ward. Now, many years later, it is still being held monthly and is one of her legacies.
She is survived by her six children: Margaret Campbell ( Steve, deceased ), Toni Chambers (Joel), Carrie Montague (Scott), Connie Erickson (Lark), Kyle Moon (Tricia) and Tess Pyrah (Scott) with 29 grandchildren, 65 great grandchildren and 2 great, great grandsons. Mom is also survived by her beloved sister LaDora Haueter. There is a joyful reunion on the other side with those who have gone before her: her husband, Don; her parents, Lawrence and Coelin Holbrook; a stillborn son, Monty; and her siblings Allen Holbrook and Gail Haskell.
Our family wishes to express our gratitude to those who provided care to her: Dr. Becky Kroll, Jamie and Lauren with St. Luke’s Hospice, and Joann and Ray of Certified Family Homes.
