Obituary

Mary Alicia Bruckner Costa passed away peacefully in her home on April 24, 2026. She was 75 years old.

"Alicia," as we all knew her, loved nothing more than to cook for her family. She found peace and joy in gardening and growing all of the veggies that she loved adding to her delicious meals - her famous soggy chicken, her chicken lasagna, beef milanesa, and other wonderful Brasilian meals that we've enjoyed over the years. She and my Dad loved sitting on their front porch and admiring her garden, watching the birds flutter by and playing in the bird bath, and befriending all of the neighborhoods' stray cats.

She was the most skilled seamstress, so much so that she won all of the top awards at Nordstrom and was frequently requested by name by all of the young brides-to-be in the Bay Area. She made all of Ana's and Lu's dance dresses in junior high and high school, family costumes, curtains and pillow covers for all of her kids' homes, and countless alterations to clothes for everyone in her family.

Anyone that knew Alicia knew that her favorite pastime was staying up ALL night at the casinos in Vegas and then lounging by the pool by day. I know many of you have wonderful memories of bringing her pizza slices and margaritas at 2AM while she made her millions on the penny slots. We will also never forget how she loved to send us photos of her feet from whatever poolside location she happened to be visiting that week.

We are forever grateful that we got to celebrate her 75th birthday in a big way in Maui, Hawaii together with family and friends. What an adventure we had that week with storms, howling winds, and power outages. We stayed in a gorgeous location with the most amazing views, we saw whales breaching right before our eyes, and were just a few feet away from the most ginormous and glorious turtles that came to shore to lay their eggs. Most importantly, though, Mama got to dip her toes in the sand, immerse her body in the warm Hawaiian waters, and be showered in love all week long by her favorite humans.

She is survived by her devoted husband of 52 years, Miro Costa; her children, Ana (Paul), Rodrigo (Sarah), and Luciana (Tom); along with her seven amazing grandchildren, Jacob and Giuliana (Lu); Skylar and Arley (Ana); Marco, Michealene, and Marcelo (Rod). She also leaves behind a wide circle of friends from her highschool days in Peru, her beloved cousins and sister in law in Brasil, nieces and nephews all over the world, and her dear coworkers from her Nordstrom days.

She is now resting in peace in the glory of our Lord Jesus and reunited with our brother, Marco. Our Vovó and her nagging pointer finger will be forever missed.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, April 29, 2026 at 11:00 am, with a visitation one hour prior to the service at Bowman Funeral Parlor 10254 W.
