Marvin Wayne Durnil

September 19, 1932 — May 24, 2025

Boise

It is with love and sorrow that we announce the passing of Marvin “Wayne Durnil”, who left this world on May 24th, 2025, at the age of 92.

Wayne spent his career with Mountain Bell and was a proud member of that company from 1955 to 1987. Wayne was hard working, dedicated, and funny—always quick with a joke or to lend help when needed. He was devout friend, neighbor, husband, father, and grandfather who will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Wayne was born in Burley, Idaho on September 19, 1932, to Ivan Carl Durnil and Anna Lucy Durnil. The family lived in Pocatello and Boise until they moved to the family farm in the Parma-Notus area in 1942. There Wayne attended the Ten Davis School and Parma High School, graduating in 1950. He attended the University of Idaho from 1950-1952, before volunteering for the Army draft in February 1953. He spent Basic Training at Camp Roberts, CA before shipping to Korea via Japan in July 1953. Wayne served in Korea until discharging at the rank of Staff Sargeant in December 1954.

Upon his return from Korea, Wayne began working with Mountain Bell, first as a lineman in Burley, then an installer-repairman, and later transferred to the marketing department in Twin Falls in 1957. At Mountain Bell he met Jacqueline Kay Wylie Hanson, and they married on July 5th, 1958.

Wayne transferred to Boise with Mountain Bell as a major account manager and was later promoted to Marketing Sales Manager and regional Unit Manager of the commercial department. In 1974, the family moved to Mountain Home, Idaho where Wayne was promoted to Exchange Manager, Marketing Manager and Office Manager. During that time, Wayne was an active member of the Board of Directors and President of the Mountain Home Chamber of Commerce. Wayne completed his Mountain Bell career in Boise from 1980 to 1987 serving as a State and Regional Staff Manager, and finally on the Regulatory team. He retired on April 1, 1987.

In 1988, Wayne and Jackie moved back to their beloved community of friends and family in Twin Falls, Idaho where they lived many happy years, eventually returning to Boise in 2015. They enjoyed frequent travel with their Mountain Bell family, including wintering in Arizona for about 25 years.

Wayne was an avid hunter and fisherman, enjoying deer, upland game, and duck hunting. He was a passionate golfer, playing several times a week until late into his life. Wayne was a committed husband, father, and friend, who could always be relied upon for thoughtful help, advice and support. He exemplified a life dedicated to purpose, integrity, and service to others. He will be remembered for his humor, generosity, dedication and strong values, and as a man who made an enduring impact on his family, friends, and community.

Wayne is survived by his three sons Steven Durnil (Amy), Timothy (Brenda), and Victor (Cami), his grandchildren Lydia, Rie, Emma, and Ash, his sister Eleanor Fritts, and many loving family and friends. He is now reunited with his wife Jacqueline, resting in eternal peace.

A memorial service is scheduled to take place on July 21st at 11 am at Bowman Funeral Home in Boise 10254 W. Carlton Bay, Garden City, ID 83714. A brief military service will follow at 1 pm at the Idaho State Veteran’s Cemetery.

The family suggests that anyone wishing to give flowers or gifts, may instead donate to the Idaho Youth Ranch, a cause near and dear to Wayne’s heart for many years.

Although Wayne is no longer present among us, his memory will forever be etched in our hearts. Our lives were forever made better by Wayne’s presence in them, and he will be missed. May his soul find rest and everlasting peace.
