Mark Steven Funaiole entered into the hands of the Lord on September 13, 2026. Mark experienced a religious renewal three years ago and was at peace.

His childhood in Massachusetts was fondly remembered. His family consisting of parents Edward and Rita along with brother Gary moved to Florida while he was still young. There he would learn to enjoy fishing, golf and surfing. Also regularly helping at the family-owned grocery and meat market.

After high school he graduated from the University of South Florida with a chemistry degree. It was then that he met and married Linda Stapleton and joined the United States Air Force. There he attended the officer training school and graduated as a Weapons Systems Officer.

Following his discharge, he embarked on his beloved career with the Idaho Air National Guard, during which he served in four tours in the Gulf War. He was a R4 Instructor in the 124th RTU and the Head of Maintenance. At the end of his military career, he served as the United States Principal Fiscal Officer and retired as a Colonel in 2006.

Mark learned to both snow and water ski and fell in love with hiking and backpacking. Mostly thanks to his longtime friend, Pat O. He passionately volunteered at Camp Rainbow Gold, a camp for children with cancer, for over 30 years where he spread kindness, laughter, and maybe just a bit of occasional mischief.

Mark and Vicki married in 2007 and embarked on an exciting 19-year adventure together. He immediately fell in love with her large family and reveled in the joy they brought to every occasion. Mark and Vicki traveled together as often as possible to experience all the beauty life had to offer.

Mark is survived by his wife Vicki, his son Matt Funaiole and his partner Krysta Nebeker, stepson Andy Mueller, stepdaughter Sarah and her husband Oskar Stephens, his beloved grandchildren Oliver and Leila, his brother Gary, cousin Dennis, and a number of additional family members and cherished friends.

And a special thanks to the St Luke’s Cancer Center and St Luke’s hospice for their exceptional care.
