Our beautiful Mom, Nana, Margie passed peacefully at home with family by her side on October 1, 2020. Family was Mom’s top priority. She is survived by her husband of 47 years, Bryan Freeman; two children, Beth McGowan (Jim); Heather Horwood (Andre) ; three grandchildren, Aimee, Amber and Alex and their families, including six amazing great-grandchildren; two brothers; and many wonderful friends.

Born of Scottish immigrants, Alexander and Isabella Crooks, and raised in Chicago, IL, Mom attended Nash Elementary and Austin High School and was active in her church, enjoying summers at Camp Awana.  She moved to California in 1967. The southwest became her home for most of her adult life, where she began her teaching career in Los Angeles, taught in a small town on an Indian reservation in Parker, Arizona, and retired from teaching in Las Vegas, impacting some 10,000 students along the way. Her final six years were in Boise, ID with all her descendents.

Mom was ceaselessly full of life, filling her life with learning, teaching, gardening, birds, nature, travel, history, music, books, natural living, and connecting with people. Often ahead of her time, she set her own style, at times defying societal norms, while always remaining well-grounded.  Later in life, she became deeply connected to her spiritual roots. She so enjoyed being surrounded by loved ones, which energized her and lifted her spirits. She made friends easily, and people everywhere were touched by her genuine interest, warm heart and big, beautiful smile.

Mom taught us all to appreciate family and her many diverse interests. She found delight in everyday occurrences and had an insatiable curiosity. Fully engaged in life, she was an inspiring and selfless person who touched us deeply and gave us more love than we will ever know and countless precious memories.

The family would especially like to thank MSTI for the kindness and care they provided. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that a donation be made in memory of Marjorie in support of The Clearity Foundation http://bit.ly/MarjorieCameronTribute , or the World Center for Birds of Prey https://peregrinefund.org/ donate .

A celebration of life will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, October 10 at Bridgepoint Church, 2530 S. Broadway Ave.  A livestream of the service can be viewed at Bridgepoint Church Boise on YouTube or Facebook Live.
