Boise

Maria Carmen Grimes, a beacon of love and kindness, passed away peacefully on July 18, 2026, at St. Luke's Hospital. Her final days were marked by the grace and courage with which she faced her illness. Born on March 10, 1951, in Queretaro, Mexico, Maria's journey was one of profound warmth and generosity, leaving an indelible mark on everyone fortunate enough to know her.

Maria was the beloved daughter of Maria Teresa Dorantes and Benjamin Dorantes Gonzalez. She was predeceased by her cherished mother, Maria Teresa Dorantes, her sister Teresa Dorantes, and her brother Benjamin Dorantes. Her legacy of love and compassion lives on through her surviving family members: Filpe Reyes, Salome Reyes, Susan Vellas, Ruth Ramirez, Olivia Nelson, and Jose Dorantes. She was the proud grandmother to ten grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren, all of whom were the light of her life.

A lifelong learner, Maria attended Salt Lake Community College, where she pursued an Associate's degree in culinary arts. Her culinary skills were not only a testament to her education but also a manifestation of her love for bringing people together. Maria had a unique gift for creating meals that were as comforting as they were delicious. Her kitchen was often filled with laughter and the aroma of her favorite dishes, as she gathered family and friends to share in the simple joy of a meal.

For over sixty years, Maria was a devoted member of the LDS Church, finding solace and community in her faith. Her days were colored with the joy she found in crocheting, a hobby she enjoyed in her quiet moments. Yet, it was her passion for cooking and her commitment to helping others that truly defined her. Known for her big heart, Maria was always ready to lend a hand to those in need, embodying a spirit of selflessness and compassion.

Maria's family will hold a private ceremony to celebrate her life and the love she shared with the world. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly suggests that donations be made in Maria's memory to the Wounded Warrior Project, an organization she deeply admired for its commitment to supporting veterans.

Though Maria Carmen Grimes has departed from this world, her legacy of love, kindness, and community will continue to inspire all who were touched by her presence. She will be dearly missed, but her spirit will live on in the hearts and memories of those she leaves behind.
