Margaret Christine Lancaster was born on November 12, 1949, in Waltham, Massachusetts,
to Warren John Whitman and Gloria Antionette Whitman. She was the second oldest of five children and the oldest girl, a role she carried with strength, humor, and a fierce independence that shaped her entire life.
Because her father served in the Air Force, Margaret spent her early years traveling before the family eventually settled in Boise, Idaho, where she put down roots and built a life filled with love, laughter, and resilience.
In Boise, Margaret met Donald Eugene Rhodes, and together they raised three children:Sarah, David, and Thomas. Margaret was a devoted mother and a true spitfire—quick-witted,playful, and always ready to make people laugh. During her years with the Boise Parks Department, she became well known for her sense of humor and harmless pranks on coworkers, bringing joy and levity wherever she went.
Margaret was an avid reader, especially of Danielle Steel novels, and took great pride in her book collection. Her love of stories was matched by her deep compassion for animals. Over the years, she opened her heart and home to numerous rescued animals, offering them comfort, safety, and unconditional love.
Later in life, Margaret found the love of her life and remarried John Tracy Lancaster, with whom she shared a deep and meaningful partnership. Through this marriage, she gained a beloved stepson, Clint, whom she loved dearly.
Margaret was a proud grandmother to many deeply loved grandchildren, who brought her endless joy and laughter. Family was at the center of her life, and she treasured every moment spent with them.
Margaret is survived by her husband, John Tracy Lancaster; her children, Sarah, David, and Thomas; her stepson, Clint; her siblings Elizabeth, Kathleen, and Robert; her grandchildren;and many cherished friends whose lives were brightened by her humor, kindness, and loyalty.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Warren John and Gloria Antionette Whitman, and her brother, Warren.
Margaret will be remembered for her sharp wit, generous heart, love of laughter, devotion to family, and her ability to make others feel seen and loved. Her spirit lives on in the stories shared, the laughter remembered, and the many lives she touched.
