Lyn H. Misner

ILyn Haroldsen Misner (Norma Lyn Haroldsen) was born on August 29, 1949, in Preston, Idaho, the first of five children born to Fred Oliver and Hannah Elizabeth Condie Haroldsen.

Lyn graduated from Bonneville High School with the distinction of valedictorian. She then attended BYU, where she majored in history and minored in French. She treasured the opportunity to study abroad in France and eagerly explored Europe while she was there. Upon college graduation, she returned to Idaho Falls and began teaching at her high school alma mater.

Eventually, Lyn felt inspired to serve a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ and was called to Milan, Italy. Shortly before leaving, she became reacquainted with Jack Misner, who had returned to Idaho Falls after serving in the military. They had known each other since 6th grade, but had not ever had much in common. Jack took her on one date before she left for her mission. While she was learning Italian in the Language Training Center, Jack wrote to her and asked her to marry him. After a lot of thought and prayer, she decided to finish her mission and marry him upon her return. She encouraged Jack to serve a mission while she completed hers, and they faithfully corresponded throughout his two years in the Germany Munich Mission. They were married on January 7, 1977, in the Idaho Falls Temple one month after he returned home.

About two years after they were married, Jack and Lyn welcomed their daughter Maren. They relocated to Boise for new career opportunities a year later. Over the following decade, Jon, Ellen, Jim, and Jeff were born, completing their family.

Lyn spent many years teaching and developing curriculum in the Nampa School District. She was honored with the “Teacher of the Year” award in 2004. She truly felt called to teach and was an influential educator and mentor for countless people. Lyn had a passion for travel and family history. After Jack's death, Lyn fulfilled the dream they had shared before his cancer diagnosis. She purchased two RVs over the years and traveled throughout the country researching family history, reconnecting with friends, and discovering new places. She also loved sewing, and even while courageously battling cancer herself, she spent countless hours sewing quilts for nearly anyone who would accept one.

Lyn devoted her life to being a disciple of Jesus Christ. She had many church callings including Relief Society President, Primary President, Relief Society and Sunday School teacher, and Family History Consultant. She served a second mission in Sacramento after Jack died, helping people with their resumes and finding jobs at an employment center. She could often be found studying the scriptures, reading nearly every gospel-centered book she could find, and seeking opportunities to serve those around her. Lyn was so active in her community that listing the many organizations she volunteered for would be too lengthy and still not do her efforts justice.

When Lyn's cancer returned with a terminal diagnosis in 2022, she chose to pursue every treatment her care team offered so she could spend as much time as possible with her family and friends while digitally preserving the family history records she had spent a lifetime researching and compiling. She passed away on July 28, 2026, surrounded by loved ones. Lyn is survived by her five children: Maren, of Boise, Idaho; Jon (Brooke), of Liberty Lake, Washington; Ellen King (Nick), of Kaysville, Utah; Jim (Ruth), of Boise, Idaho; and Jeff (Lyndsey), of Reno, Nevada. She is also survived by her grandchildren Warren, Emerson, Jaden, Bennett, Kayla, Lillian, Braddack, Jackson, Joshua, Bethlyn, and Evie; her sisters, Gwen Schweider and DeAnn Johnson; and her brothers, Craig and Brent. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Jack, and her parents.

A public viewing will be held, 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm, Sunday, August 16, 2026, at Bowman Funeral Parlor, 10254 W. Carlton Bay Dr., Garden City.

A public funeral service will be held, 10:30 am, Monday, August 17, 2026, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 2290 E. Warm Springs Ave., Boise, Idaho, with a public viewing beginning at 9:30 am.

A public committal service will follow beginning at 1:00 pm at the Idaho State Veterans Cemetery, 10100 Horseshoe Bend Rd., Boise, Idaho.
