Lubomir (Lu) Velicky, tall, dark and handsome; 73; of Boise Idaho; born July 27 1950; died September 23, 2023. Lu was looking forward to the next leg of his cosmic adventure as his friends and family visited him at the VA Hospice.
Lu was born in Bratislava, Czechoslovakia the son of Alojz and Irena Velicky. He was an only child but had many beloved cousins he played with when he was young. He emigrated to the US after Russian tanks rolled into Bratislava in 1969 and he arrived in New York right before his 19th birthday. He very quickly made his way west to Colorado, which he recognized as a new home. After working in many jobs like ranching and bartending he joined the US Air Force and served 4 years. After discharge from the Air Force, he served in the Colorado Army National Guard while attending Colorado State University to get his degree in Chemical Engineering before moving into a career in the Semiconductor industry working for HP and Micron. He attained the rank of Captain while in the Green Berets in Colorado. During his military service he was in the Special Forces and served our country throughout the world including in Guam, the Philippines, Alaska, Hawaii, Grenada, and the Middle East.
Although he considered Colorado his home in the US, he explored New York, North Carolina, and Georgia before settling in Boise, Idaho, where he lived out his days exploring lava tubes and climbing mountains. He loved exploring the deserts and finding hidden secrets like petroglyphs. He had an avid appreciation for music, playing guitar since he was a teen and learning the flute in his later years.
He is survived by his son and daughter-in law Alex and Emma Velicky, both tech prodigies; his daughter Alyssa, noted for her work in Idaho Public Television, and his daughter Indigo, tenant organizer and advocate. He is also survived by his significant other Jolene.
