Lois Irene Hawthorne Walcott
Lois Irene Hawthorne Walcott was born on September 17, 1934, on the family farm near Chadron, Nebraska.
Lois’s Uncle Robert told her that the doctor received a cow as payment!
Lois’ mom told her she was afraid as a baby and wanted to be in her mothers’ arms. Turned out she was fearful much of her early life.
Her parents were Ernest and Helen Hawthorne. Lois lived with her parents and and older sister Thelma and a brother Don on the farm.
Lois was very delighted when her twin sisters Marie and Mina were born. She spent much time helping her mom in many ways, especially enjoying taking care of the twins.
Her early school days were spent at the Locket School in the Big Bordeaux community near Chadron, Ne. When the family purchased a farm in the Dead Horse Community near Chadron NE. Lois joined her brother Don in attending the Chadron Prep school for 7th grade. The next year for 8th grade she attended the Flag Butte School. near the farm. Lois attended Chadron High School in Chadron NE. and graduated in 1951.
After attending Chadron State Teachers College for 1 year, she acquired a teacher’s certificate, and began teaching at the Flag Butte School near the family farm. After 2 years she went to Friends University Wichita, Kansas where she received a BS in Elementary Education from 1956 to 1959. She taught 3rd grade at North Platte, NE. Looking for adventure Lois and a friend went to Forest Grove Oregon where she taught 3rd grade for 2 years. The following year she lived in Portland and worked at the Sunset Fuel Company. Her friend and roommate got jobs in Stockton, Ca in 1962. Lois taught for 30 years in Lincoln District Stockton, CA.
She met her husband Al Walcott at a Singles bible study in 1970 and they were married in 1972.
From an early age Lois became a born again Christian and lived her life for Jesus, her savior. She loved her Christian family and sent many cards to family and friends for birthdays and other occasions. Her Christmas card list was long; she sent more than 200 cards to friends and family. Communicating was one of her favorite things to do.
Lois loved her students and kept in touch with many.
Lois and Al traveled a lot and had trips to Hawaii and Nebraska. Also, a trip to Germany and England as well as special trips to attend Reunions with their High School classmates and family.
Lois and Al moved to Boise, Idaho in 2001, where they especially enjoyed visiting with Lois and Al’s family members who also lived in Idaho, also friends previous and new friends.
Lois is survived by: Her Husband Al Walcott whom she loved over 50 years August 18,1972 – July 23, 2023, Daughter: Brenda Vega (Victor), Joshua, Stefan, Serena, Sonny, Victor and Michael, Son: Tim Walcott (Annette), Jack, Twin Sisters: Marie Smith (Randy – D), Mina Duncan (Don – D), Numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and a friend Betty Gardner of over 60 years.
Preceded in Death by her Parents Ernest and Helen Hawthorne, Brother Don (Wanda), and (Ardeth) Hawthorne, Sister: Thelma Hawthorne Marshall (Gene)

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am, on Friday, July 28, 2023, at Treasure Valley Bible Church, 12251 W. Ustick Rd. in Boise. A committal service will follow at the Greenleaf Cemetery in Greenleaf.
