Lois Gertrude Herr

Lois Gertrude Thornhill Herr of Nampa, Idaho, died peacefully at home on September 24, 2026, with her loving daughter and granddaughter beside her, and a dear cat by her side.

Lois Herr was born September 22, 1924, in American Falls, Idaho, a daughter of Charles C. and Gertrude Koons Thornhill. In 1946 she married James H. Nunnelley. She and her husband farmed in the Arbon Valley area until the time of his death in 1958. To this marriage, two children were born, Mike and Shelley.

On August 11, 1968, Lois married William L. Herr and shortly thereafter, they moved to Nampa, Idaho where Bill had accepted a position with School District #131. Upon arriving in Nampa, Lois was immediately employed at Fleetwood Homes of Idaho, where she remained for twenty years, until her retirement in November of 1990.

Lois took great pride in civic engagement throughout her life. She was once elected a County Clerk, faithfully exercised her right to vote, and proudly served as an election poll worker. She was a lifelong patron of her local library, which remained a valued source of learning and enjoyment throughout her life.

Lois was an active member of Nampa First United Methodist Church and enjoyed her years of participating with the choir. She helped as needed in the office, folding Sunday bulletins and assisting with the monthly newsletter.

She was proud to be a Charter Member, past President and officer of the Nampa Civic Center Auxiliary. During her time as Auxiliary Secretary she was named 2013 Citizen of the Year by Nampa Mayor, Tom Dale.

Lois was a Past Matron and fifty-year member of the Order of the Eastern Star. She often remarked that most of her Eastern Star life had been spent on the piano bench as she served as Organist for several different chapters.

Shortly after moving to Nampa, Lois discovered and became involved with the Majors and Minors community singing group. This association afforded her many, many years of pleasure and where new and lasting friendships were made.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husbands; her son, Michael J. Nunnelley; her brother, Merritt K. Thornhill; her sister, Lucille Brooks; her granddaughter, Ashley Perkins; and many other dear family members and friends.

Survivors include her daughter, Michele (Shelley) Nunnelley Grose, Boise, Idaho, her granddaughter, Allison Maroun (Vincent) also of Boise. She expressed appreciation for being allowed to live long enough to be with her beloved great grandchildren, Haegan Perkins (15), Wyatt Perkins (9), and Augustus Maroun (13).

The family wishes to express its heartfelt gratitude to Lois’s “village”—the many people who surrounded her with friendship, companionship, care, and support throughout the years. Her companions and caregivers, Aurora, Diana, Renee, Roxanne, and Sha’rae, became an important part of her daily life. The family is equally grateful to Andrés, Cheryl, Marlene, Moe, and Ted, whose care and attention to Lois, her home, and her well-being became such a meaningful part of her life. Their kindness, dedication, and friendship meant so much to Lois and her family.

The family also extends its gratitude to the St. Luke’s Hospice team, who provided calm and compassionate care to Lois and her family throughout her “long journey home”.

A private family burial will be held at Kohlerlawn Cemetery, Nampa, Idaho. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Pet Haven or a charity of your choice.
