Leslie Ann Young

June 10, 1949 – August 4, 2024

Leslie Young was born in Fruita, Colorado, the second child of Marjorie Merz Young and Harold Young.

Born into a family of ranchers, Leslie grew up in Blanding, Utah and Mack, Colorado, where her family ran a cattle ranch with her grandfather and uncle. She went to school at Blanding Elementary, New Liberty, Loma, and Fruita High School, where she excelled in scholastics, was chosen as drum majorette of the band, Miss FHS, and FFA Royalty, and was busy and helpful in many clubs and activities. She was active in raising and showing beef in the 4-H club.

The ranch life was very important to Leslie. She loved riding, moving and working cattle, helping with fence work, and driving a tractor during haying time. Horses were her "go to" during work and for play time. The days that she was not riding with Dad, helping with the cattle, she could be found out climbing and playing in the Bookcliff canyons and rims around the Young family's 3X ranch in Colorado.

Leslie graduated from Fruita High in 1967 and from Snow College in Ephraim, Utah in 1969. She married Dean Burrup on December 23, 1969, after meeting him at Snow College. They lived in Manti, Salt Lake City, and Sandy, Utah; Bozeman, Montana; and Kuna, Idaho. They had four children together: Jeanna, JD, Cody, and Libby. Leslie delighted in her children and helped, encouraged, and loved them with her whole heart. They grew up into wonderful adults, and they all call her blessed. Her children, siblings, and friends all relied on her for advice, comfort, inspiration, and happy times.

Leslie ran her own custom upholstery and sewing business and worked in retail furniture sales. In 2005 Dean and Leslie divorced, and she trained as a medical assistant, working in family medicine in Fruita, Colorado, and orthopedic medicine and general surgery in Boise, Idaho. She also held jobs in gardening and retail.

Leslie loved life, gardening, music, cooking, sewing, woodworking, reading, nature, and exploring the world around her. She designed furniture and was an excellent seamstress and upholsterer. She was talented in many areas of the sewing world and could design and sew well-tailored clothing of all kinds, bedding, draperies, and other home linens. Her beautiful upholstered furniture delighted her customers and graced her own and her children's homes. She grew extensive vegetable and flower gardens every year and taught her daughters to garden. A Cub Scout leader, she also taught children's classes at church and classes for adults on sewing, gardening, and thrifty living. Her home and yard were full of her custom woodworking designs, both practical and unique.

Leslie was always willing to share her time with people, to listen, to care, and to encourage, as well as to laugh and enjoy time together. When she was in a group, people sought her company in order to share in the good times and fun. Leslie was warm and friendly to everyone that she knew and met.

Leslie passed away August 4, 2024 in Boise, Idaho, with her family by her side. She is survived by her children, Jeanna Burrup and husband, Miguel Carmona; JD, Cody, and Libby Burrup; and siblings Frances Hill, Betty Jo Anderson, and John Young. She was preceded in death by her parents and sister Hallie Young.
