Leota “Lee” Hill was born Leota Dawn Whitehead on June 17, 1937, and passed away peacefully while sleeping on November 17. She was raised by parents Wilbur and Bertha Whitehead along with two siblings, Gary and Marianna. The family operated a farm outside of Shoshone.
After graduation from Shoshone High School, Lee studied at Idaho State University, where her great passion was journalism. Lee married Gerald (Jerry) Hill in 1956 and soon had a family of five. After a move to Boise in the early 1970s, Lee worked for the City of Boise, leaving to become a real estate broker for the remainder of her career.
Lee remained true to her school (Hello Shoshone High!) and was a die-hard Broncos fan before it was cool. But the flag that flew highest was the one marked “Fun”. For Fun is the word everyone seems to reach for first when Lee’s name comes up. Irrepressible, up for anything, most often the instigator of everything, from a trip to Bogus, a winery to visit, or a Broncos game to attend. There was a family to raise, too. Bringing up three kids on your own while working a full-time job was a big load to carry, but you wouldn’t know it; only occasionally was she required to brandish a wooden spoon to bring a wayward charge back in line.
Leota is survived by her children, Greg, Joni, and Julie; her sister Marianne; grandchildren, Cameron Flaner and Olivia Hill. Leota was preceded in death by her brother Gary.
A special thanks to White Oak Hospice and Ramona Alexandrescu for their incredibly attentive care.
There will be a Celebration of Life for Lee the spring of 2026; details to follow.
