Lee Patrick Gomez 1940 – 2025

Lee Patrick Gomez was born March 17, 1940, in Acequia, Idaho, to Jesus and Cora (Cantu) Gomez. He passed away peacefully on March 17, 2025. He spent his early childhood on a farm in Acequia, Idaho. He grew into adulthood in the Rupert and Minidoka County, Idaho area.

Lee served in the U.S. Army from 1963-1965. He was stationed in the DMZ in South Korea and San Antonio, Texas.

He married Betty McWilliams on February 19, 1966. They were married for 59 years. They were blessed with two wonderful daughters, Victoria and Carrie.

Lee worked many different types of jobs during his lifetime. He was a farmer (which he loved) in Idaho and Washington. He worked in hard rock and uranium mines (which he hated) in Colorado. He was employed by Morrison Knudsen in the locomotive assembly shop in Boise, Idaho, as a warehouseman and then as a foreman. His last employment was for the Boise School District at Madison Elementary School. Because of his good work ethic, he received awards from MK and the Boise School District. He really enjoyed working with the teachers, staff and children. He always worked at everything he did to the best of his ability. He had a wonderfully strong work ethic. He enjoyed building. He could fix anything. He was a self-taught Jack of all Trades. He built the family room addition to his home. He also liked refinishing furniture and woodworking. He enjoyed tinkering in the garage. He loved going camping and fishing with his children, grandchildren, brothers and friends.

Lee had a great sense of humor. He would joke with and tease people. He loved sharing stories about his life experiences. Lee was intensely devoted to his family. He always looked for the best in all people, especially his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He especially loved babies and had great patience with them. He would do anything he could to help in any way possible. He loved watching his grandkids and great grandkids. He was a loyal family man and loved doing whatever he could to help any of his children.

He is survived by his wife, Betty; daughters: Victoria (Scott) Vail, and Carrie Riggs; grandchildren: Austin, Micaela and Matthew Vail, Rachel and Gavin Riggs; great-grandchildren: Brooklyn Vail and Brody and Bryson Boehlke, his sister, Terry, and brothers, Mike and Steve, and many nephews and nieces.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Mercy Castro, and brothers, Richard and Barry Gomez.

Funeral service will be on Saturday, April 26, 2025, at Our Lady of the Rosary Catholic Church, 1500 E. Wright Street, Boise, Idaho at 10:00 a.m. with burial at Morris Hill Cemetery, 317 N. Latah Street following the funeral mass.
