Larry passed away peacefully on May 18th, 2025, at the State Veterans Home in Boise, Idaho. Larry was born on September 16th, 1945, in Odessa, Texas. Larry was a beloved husband, father, brother, son and a cherished friend.
Larry was a dedicated hunting and fishing guide which was his big adventure and true passion in life. He managed a bar and restaurant and hotels in Amistad, Texas. He loved telling jokes and making the customers laugh. He was a great outdoorsman. People around Larry were having fun and laughing at whatever they were doing.
Larry was a fantastic salesman with his gift for influencing people. He was extremely successful in selling chemicals. The chemicals he sold included Round Up which is the same as Agent Orange and that is why he contracted Parkinsons disease. He had a lasting impact on everyone he worked with or knew. Larry’s unwavering kindness, humor, and resilience were admired by all who knew him. He was a member of the United Methodist Church in San Antonio teaching Sunday school.
In 2013 he moved to Boise, Idaho to be with the love of his life Marie Green where he was baptized at The Vineyard Church. He took classes for improvement in his life. He found a new home and loved Idaho. His health got the better of him with Parkinsons disease when he entered the VA Home. He became the video library manager and even served as the council president always quick with the jokes.
He attended church at the VA every Sunday. Early in his life he joined the Army Reserves because he wanted to be a Tanker (working on Tanks). He had an injury and had to go home. He is survived by his wife Marie Green and a stepson Luke Hayhurst and wife Quinn of Boise Idaho. Three estranged children, a son and two adopted daughters in Texas who will carry forward his legacy of compassion and love.
He was preceded in death by his Mother Dorothy Scruggs Holderman, and his Father Hubert A. Scruggs, and a brother Dudley Scruggs. Larry had two Ex-wives of Texas. Ann Wright Hodge and Linda Frisbee Tyler are both in Texas. He has five or six grandchildren, all estranged.
Following his cremation in Boise, Idaho, Larry will be interred at the Idaho Veterans Cemetery. Larry Scruggs will forever remain in our hearts and minds, a beacon of light and love whose spirit will continue to guide us. You are missed greatly.
Rest in peace, Larry Scruggs. Your life was a gift to us all.
