Lawrence “Larry” A. Lombard, 81, of Meridian, Idaho, passed away peacefully after a courageous battle with Multiple Myeloma, a condition related to his exposure to Agent Orange during the Viet Nam War. He leaves behind a legacy of honor, resilience, and unwavering devotion to family and country.
Born on July 25, 1943, in Long Beach, California, Larry was the son of Florence Martha Coltharp and George Elliott Lombard. He graduated from Ganesha High School and went on to further his education at Mt. San Antonio College and California State University, Dominguez Hills.
On April 30, 1966, Larry married Cynthia Dianne Stevens at the Little White Chapel in Las Vegas, Nevada. Their union was blessed with nearly 59 years of love and partnership, during which they raised a family and built a life rooted in faith, service, and enduring commitment.
Larry’s career in aeronautics spanned several decades and included positions with General Dynamics, Northrop Grumman, and Lockheed Martin. He was admired for his technical skill, dedication, and leadership.
A proud U.S. Army veteran, Larry served as a helicopter pilot during the Viet Nam War. During combat, he was critically wounded when his helicopter was shot down. Though he endured serious injuries and lifelong health complications, he remained steadfast in his devotion to fellow veterans and continued to honor the brotherhood formed during his military service. He was a member of the Viet Nam Helicopter Pilots Association and an active supporter of the Disabled American Veterans organization.
Larry’s passions extended beyond his service and career. A licensed pilot, he loved flying small aircraft, golfing, and spending hours tinkering in his garage. He found his greatest joy in time spent with his family—participating in activities with his children and grandchildren, and cherishing the simple moments that made life meaningful.
A man of deep faith, Larry was a devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served faithfully in many volunteer roles. He also gave generously of his time through Junior Achievement programs, investing in the education and growth of young people in his community.
Larry is survived by his loving wife, Cynthia Lombard; his daughter, Lisa Hamer (Kevin) of Meridian, ID; his son, Christopher Lombard (Brooke) of Phoenix, AZ; grandchildren Tyler (Cierra), Michael (Natalie), Nicole (Gabriel), and Zoë; as well as five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, George.
A public viewing will be held on Monday, April 21, 2025, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Bowman Funeral Home. A graveside service with military honors will follow on Tuesday, April 22, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at the Idaho State Veterans Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly suggests memorial donations be made to the Disabled American Veterans Association in Larry’s memory.
Larry’s life was marked by courage, humility, and love. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
