Larry passed away February 22 from a brief and difficult battle with ALS. He was born October 1956, to Gene and Rita Koomler, in Boise Idaho and graduated from Bishop Kelly High School in 1975. Larry moved back and forth from Boise to Spokane a number of times during his lifetime and it was in Spokane where he met his wife Chris.
He started his career in Spokane, with Safeco Insurance, and then moved to Boise to continue on in this field with Sedwick James, where he managed the office. He then moved to PayneWest where he retired in 2020.
Larry had a huge heart and his love for others was evident in everything he did. He was a loving husband to Chris, an amazing father to Brandon, a wonderful brother and a fun and loving uncle to all of his nieces and nephews.
His real gift was not in what he did, but in who he was. He was a champion for others and was happiest when he was serving others.
Larry not only served on the Boards of organizations such as the YMCA, Big Brothers Big Sisters and the United Way, he was also very involved with Idaho Youth Ranch, Corpus Christi and Bishop Kelly, just to name a few. While many non-profit organizations may have benefited from Larry’s wisdom and heart, he was always more comfortable walking along the side of those in need and trying to stay out of the limelight.
He was a friend to anyone he met. He had an amazing sense of humour and you could always count on a witty remark or a quick joke to make you laugh. He espcially enjoyed his motorcycle trips with his biking buddies and Friday nights with the “Happy Hour” group.
Larry is survived by his wife, Chris, his son Brandon (Alexa), his brother Kevin (Peggy), his sisters Colleen (Tom-his comrade in arms!) and Ellen (Ron) and numerous nieces and nephews. He was proceeded in death by his sister Loretta.
Larry cherished family and friends and lived his live to the fullest. We will deeply miss his fun loving attitude, generous spirit and his great sense of humor.
It is with a heavy heart we hand Larry over to the Lord but are happy with the knowledge that he will be bringing some laughter to his new home.
In lieu of flowers please consider giving your time or donation to either a charity of your choice or one of the following: YMCA, Big Brothers Big Sisters, Corpus Christi or the Idaho Youth ranch.
