Larry Dean Rose died Saturday, May 11th, 2024, at his home in Boise, Idaho. His many adventures in life finally caused the last cog in his heart wheel to wear out. He lived a very fulfilling life having seen and photographed just about every inch of the Pacific Northwest.
Larry Dean Rose, a fourth generation Idahoan, was born October 7, 1943, in Idaho Falls, Idaho, to Dean and Lola Rose. The family moved around Idaho a few times before settling in Emmett where Larry attended Emmett High School, graduating in 1961.
After high school he married Joyce Rodenbough. They moved to and settled in Boise, where Larry remained for the rest of his life. They had four children, Tammy, Teresa, Troy, and Tonya. After divorcing, Larry met and married Marina Coats in 1981 and were married until her death in 2018.
Larry worked for Ballou Latimer Drugstore and then Ray Cole Motors. After Ray Cole Motors sold to Dennis Dillon Motors, Larry moved over to Bob Rice Ford. It was here that Larry sold a vehicle to the owner of Idaho Camera who offered him a job. Larry found that selling cars did not have the future he wanted so he accepted the job at Idaho Camera in 1984 and never looked back. His passion for photography kept him there until his retirement.
Larry never met a tree, mountain, animal, or barn that he couldn’t photograph, which often led to much longer road trips than anticipated. His love of photography, however, might possibly have kept Kodak in business as he took thousands upon thousands of pictures.
Larry’s other passion was in restoring cars, specifically a 1947 Buick Roadmaster. Though he never finished it fully, he came close to making it road ready. He spent many years scouring the Pacific Northwest for authentic 1947 Buick parts. Currently that old Buick sits in the garage awaiting its maiden voyage down the roads of Boise.
He is preceded in death by his parents Dean and Lola Rose, second wife Marina Rose (2018), and his oldest daughter Tammy Lee Rose (2015). He is survived by his children Teresa (Justin) Brown, Troy (Callie) Rose, and Tonya Mizuki; siblings Ron (Lynne) Rose, Kaye (Larry) York, and Sheila (Nick) Schroeder; grandchildren Kristine (Jeremy) Tremaine, Tabitha Brown, Amanda Rose, Kaitlyn Mizuki, Kyle Mizuki, and Jordan Rose as well as several great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A celebration of life will be held Thursday, June 13th from 5:30pm to 7:30pm at Gem County Senior and Community Center, 719 S Johns Ave, Emmett, ID.
Larry will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
