Kenneth Duane Roberts

Kenneth Duane Roberts, surrounded by his loving family, peacefully entered the arms of the Lord on June 25, 2025 at the age of 60.

Born on August 29, 1964 to Walter Duane Roberts and Ina Lee Bray in Sheridan, Wyoming, Ken joined his older brother, Walter, and was later blessed with siblings, Edward and LaLonnie. His early years were spent in California and Wisconsin before the family settled back in Sheridan, where Ken and his siblings attended high school.

Ken was an accomplished athlete, earning varsity letters in both football and wrestling. His football team even clinched the state championship. After high school, Ken enlisted in the US Navy and served on the USS Midway as an Aircraft Aviation Administrationman stationed in Yokosuka, Japan. Ken cherished his time in the military and aspired to make it his career. He was accepted into the BOOST program with dreams of becoming a Naval Aviator. However, God had other plans – Ken began experiencing seizures soon after his acceptance, leading to his discharge from the service.

Embracing a new direction, Ken enrolled in the finance program at the University of Denver, where he met his future wife, Ronda. They married in August 1990 and, after graduation, moved to Boise, Idaho. Their family grew with the addition of daughters Kelsey in 1995 and Karlyn in 1998.

Ken's career path included various roles at Micron Technology, Sears Credit, Commercial Tire, Western Trailer, and a pipefitting company before he decided to return to school at Boise State to earn an associate’s degree in accounting. After graduation, Ken dedicated the duration of his career to the public service sector working as a tax auditor for the IRS and later as a customer service representative for the Idaho State Tax Commission before retiring in 2023. When able, Ken also enjoyed volunteering his time coaching junior high football and working at the Boise VA and Epilepsy Foundation of Idaho.

Ken's greatest joy was spending time with his family. He enjoyed all the soccer matches, basketball and volleyball games, dance and piano recitals, and many other activities that his daughters participated in. He was immensely proud of their athletic and academic achievements. He also loved to travel. Whether it was for sports tournaments with the girls, family camping trips in the summers, cruises to Alaska and Europe, or more recently, Jamaica with his wife.

In February 2019, Ken was diagnosed with metastatic colon cancer. He fought bravely with grace and dignity for over 6 years.

Ken was preceded in death by his grandparents, Philip and Genevieve Bray and Edward and Mary Roberts; his parents, Ina Lee Bray and Walter Duane Roberts; and his sister, LaLonnie Roberts. He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Ronda Roberts; his daughters, Kelsey (Andrew) Wilson and Karlyn (Joshua) Soriano; his brothers, Edward and Walter Roberts; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Ken will always be remembered for his firm handshake, quirky sense of humor, pride for his family, and kind and gentle spirit. He was a loving husband, father, brother, and friend who will be deeply missed.

The family would like to thank the Boise VA Medical Center for the many years of service and care they provided for Ken. Special thanks go to Dr. Han, Dr. Beaudreau, Elena Speroff, Dr. Montgomery, Becca, Anthony, Steve, Corinne, and the many other wonderful chemo nurses, radiology technicians, surgeons, and more who cared for Ken throughout his life’s journey.

In lieu of flowers, the company would like to request donations be made to a Veteran’s Home in your state, the American Cancer Society, or the Epilepsy Foundation of Idaho.
