Kelly Nelson deKramer, 62, of Boise, formerly of Twin Falls, passed away December 4, 2023. Kelly was born October 9, 1961, at the Naval Hospital in Kittery, Maine to Adrian and Carol deKramer. His dad was a U.S. Navy Boiler Technician E-8.
The family moved back to Twin Falls, Idaho when Kelly was 12 months old. The family grew as sisters Kathy, Karyn and Kaylene were born. The family went to the First Christian Church in Twin Falls where Kelly was baptized. Kelly attended public school and earned a spot on the Twin Falls High School football team in the position of tackle. At basketball games – being the big guy that he was – Kelly helped with lifts on the cheerleading squad. Kelly went to college at the University of Idaho for a short time, he enjoyed college life but decided to pursue other avenues. Kelly made many friends at college and had some rowdy adventures. On one occasion, he and his buddies purchased a couch on sale then later realized it would not fit up the stairs and around the corner. Together they came up with the idea of tying a rope around the corners to pull it up through the window. Much fun was had, and the mission was successful.
In his younger years, Kelly liked motorbikes. The first motorbike he rode was a Honda minibike at about 8 years old. This was later upgraded to a Honda 90. The family loved to camp. Kelly’s motorbike became standard camping gear. He loved to ride his bike on the dirt trails and roads. Kelly loved adventure. As a kid on one camping trip, he played ‘Mountain Man’ and found a sandbar in the middle of the river to pursue his adventure. His survival skills weren’t bad as he caught a fish, built a fire, and tried to cook it using willow branches for support. The ‘almost ready’ fish did not cooperate and fell into the fire.
Kelly worked various jobs looking for the right fit. He eventually moved to Boise and started working for the ABC Cab company as a taxi driver. Getting people to the places they needed was Kelly’s gift of helping others. Kelly never hesitated to help a friend in need. Kelly enjoyed meeting people and easily made new friends. He enjoyed the company of his co-workers. Kelly enjoyed family gatherings and attended as many as he could.
Kelly loved to tease his two sisters and two nieces Robyn and Randi. He will be missed. Almost four years ago, Kelly was looking for a roommate and found a good friend in Nick. Nick and Kelly became close friends. On October 31, Kelly fell and broke his femur. He had surgery to repair the break and spent a month in hospital care fighting to overcome additional complications. He passed away December 4, 2023, at St Alphonsus Hospital, Boise, Idaho.
Kelly is survived by his mother Carol deKramer, sister Kathy (Brian) Parks, nieces Robyn Parks (Dan Buell), Randi (Kyle) Litchy, great nephews Marshall and Maverick Litchy, and sister Karyn deKramer (Rob Miller). Preceded in death by his father Adrian Nelson deKramer and sister Kaylene.
Memorial services for Kelly to be held at a later date…possibly 2024.
