Kathy Louise Funk

February 21, 1953 — October 17, 2025

Boise

Kathy Louise Funk passed away holding her husband's hand on October 17, 2025, in Boise, Idaho, at the age of 72. Born on February 21, 1953, in Bell, California, she was the cherished middle daughter of Robert and Eva Jean Foster.

Kathy's early years were shaped by her family's travels between California and Germany during her father's service in the United States Air Force. Eventually, the family settled in Arizona, where Kathy attended Barcelona Elementary and Middle School. It was there, in the eighth grade, that she met Douglas Funk—the man who would become her lifelong partner. After graduating from Alhambra High School in Phoenix in 1971, Kathy and Doug were married on May 17, 1974, beginning a joyful and enduring union.

Professionally, Kathy worked as a part-time receptionist at various companies and a customer service representative at The Gap, where she ultimately retired. Her warm demeanor and sincere interest in others and fashion made a lasting impression on both customers and coworkers. She brought kindness and connection to every interaction, leaving behind a legacy of compassion in the workplace.

Above all else, Kathy found her greatest joy in her role as a wife, mother, and "Sama" as her grandchildren lovingly called her. Her love for her each one of them was deep and unwavering, and her life was a testament to her devotion to family and faith. A woman of strong Christian belief, Kathy centered her life around her love for Jesus and the people closest to her. She found delight in life's simple pleasures—long phone conversations with loved ones, praying with her friends over Zoom, shopping at her two favorite stores, The Gap & Trader Joe's, scenic autumn drives with her husband, and cheering on her grandchildren at their sporting events. These moments reflected the nurturing spirit that defined her.

Kathy is survived by her devoted husband, Doug Funk; her daughter, Melissa Romero, and son-in-law, Mike; her son, Jason Funk, and daughter-in-law, Linda; and her treasured grandchildren, Lucas Romero, Cash Funk, and Lily-Kay Funk. She is also survived by her sisters, Lynda Mammal and her husband, Rick, and Bobbi Foster; as well as her nieces, Nicole Foster and Katelyn Zimmerman.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert Warren and Eva Jean Foster.

Her family will deeply miss Kathy's love and faith-filled spirit, but she will continue to live on in their hearts and in all those who knew her. May she rest in eternal peace.
