It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Karen Graff Moore, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend who left us peacefully on September 1st, 2026.
Karen was born in Washington, D.C., in January of 1944 and was the only child of George and Roma Graff.
Her life, though shaped by her battle with Alzheimer’s in recent years, was one of love, kindness, and joy.
Karen leaves behind four biological children, four stepchildren, many grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Throughout her life, Karen was known for her warmth, infectious smile, and optimism. She always tried to look on the bright side of things. You could always find her helping someone and offering words of advice. She was deeply loved by her family and friends, and her absence will be felt in countless ways.
Karen was adopted as an infant and raised on a farm in Spencerville, Maryland.
She graduated from Sherwood High School in 1962. At 19 years old, she was a runner-up in the Miss Rockville beauty pageant, a reflection of her beauty and charm that would be remembered throughout her life.
She worked at Holy Cross Hospital as a Medical Technologist before marrying her first husband in 1967. This marriage produced three children and ended when he was killed in an accident in 1971.
After the death of her first husband, Karen met her second husband soon after joining The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. With their blended family, there were seven children. They added three more.
Karen loved flowers. She loved having flowers in her yard and in her home.
She was also an amateur artist and attended art school classes for a short time. She loved having beautiful art around her house, especially depictions of the Savior.
She enjoyed volunteering her time in her children’s school classes, serving in her church, and serving others. Karen had a great sense of humor and loved to laugh. Her greatest joys were her children and her faith in Jesus Christ.
She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Roma Graff; her husbands, Ernest Kent Buchanan Jr. and Heber Grant Moore; and two sons, Daniel Matthew Moore and Andrew Thomas Moore.
She is survived by her children Kiersten Neff (Lee), Aaron Graff Moore (Keyli), Kate Wilcox (Kendall), David Grant Moore (Trinity), daughter-in-law Erica, and stepchildren William Evan Moore (Ruth), Heber Alan Moore (Nancy), Kathy Moore, Rebecca Meng (Max), and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
