John M. Vance
9-30-42 to 10-3-24

John (Jack) was born in Oakland California to Olive & Jim Vance.

He graduated from Castlemont High School then followed a Vance family tradition by going to the University of Idaho, earning his degree in chemical engineering. His first jobs were in the oil industry, working for Bechtel Corp, and Mobil Oil. Then he worked for Envirotech Corporation where he oversaw 28 engineers and technicians responsible for the development and marketing of products for chemical analysis and water system telemetry.  In 1976 he began his own consulting business, Comsysco Corporation. As a consultant he performed both management and technical staff functions in a broad range of areas of computer software and hardware design, customer support and marketing. For these clients he traveled to Europe and China.

He loved fast cars and raced them in his younger years. The Corvette was his favorite personal car.  He also held an instrument rated pilots license.

When he retired, he decided he wanted to leave California and move to Florida to live on a boat. In 2006 he purchased a boat from Carol Freeman. After the purchase he lived on the boat but then found that living on land with Carol was easier.  In Florida he joined the North Palm Beach businessmen’s Assn. where he gained new and good friends. He resided in North Palm Beach until July of 2023 when he moved to Boise because of health concerns and to be closer to his sister, Bess.

He passed away at Cornerstone Senior Living on Oct. 3, 2024.

The family wishes to extend sincere thanks to the care staff and administration of Cornerstone Senior Living for the care given to Jack while he was a resident. And to Keystone Hospice for their care and support.

He is survived by his sister, Bess Vance of Boise and several cousins.

A graveside service will be held on October 12, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at Dry Creek Cemetery, in Boise.

Arrangements are under the direction of Bowman Funeral Parlor of Garden City.
