John Lloyd Cordova, Jr.

John Lloyd Cordova, Jr. 1947-2024, age 77, passed away on September 12th at 2:30 pm at St. Luke’s Wood River in Ketchum, Idaho after battling illnesses.

He was born on May 9, 1947 in Monte Vista, Colorado to Priscilla (Maes) and John Sr.  He was the oldest child born before his brother, Agusto (Gus), sister Lillian, and his sister, Linda.  He attended Venice High School in Venice, CA where he met and married his future wife, Bonnie Moynier.  They got married on June 9, 1965.

He entered the US Navy Installment Command in San Diego, CA on March 19, 1965.  He was sent to Vietnam as a Navy Corpsman (medic) and helped work with the Marines while in Vietnam where he saved lives, fought the enemy alongside the Marines, and endured awful, traumatic warfare, fighting for our country.  He was on the USS Haven AH-12 and was on the ground in Vietnam.  He earned a Bronze Star medal with combat V- on January 14, 1967, a Vietnam Campaign Medal with Device on November 18, 1966, and also a National Defense Service Medal on January 31, 1968.  He was released from active duty and transferred to the Naval Reserve on May 8, 1968.

He is survived by his son, Daniel (Erica) from former spouse Bonnie (Moynier) Butler, son Michael (Jessica) from former spouse Gabi (Schupp) Cordova, former spouse Linda Flynn, grandchildren Noah and Lucas from son Daniel, Justice, River, and Summer from son Michael, and his sister Linda (Gary) Garvey.

John is preceded in death by his sister Lillian, parents Priscilla and John Sr., his daughter Dana from former spouse Bonnie, and brother Gus (Sharon).

The family would like to offer a special thanks to the administration and staff of The Cove of Cascadia in Bellevue, Idaho, for their loving care of John for the past 3+ years and the loving care of doctors and staff at St. Luke’s Wood River in his last days.

There will be two memorial services for John: one at the Idaho State Veterans Cemetery, 10100 N. Horseshoe Bend Rd. in Boise, on Friday, March 21, 2025, at 1:00 pm.  There will be a second service at the Cordova family cemetery in Saguache, Colorado in the summer of 2025.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a donation to the family to buy a headstone for John to put in the Cordova family cemetery or to the Wounded Warrior Project.
