John H. De Blieck, a man of enduring spirit, passed away on April 13th, 2024, at his home in Boise, Idaho. Born to Grace and Julius De Blieck on June 13th, 1940, in Tracy, MN, John was the fourth child of eleven siblings.
Raised amidst the serene beauty of a farm in Tracy, John’s early years were filled with a deep appreciation for nature, where he worked, fished, and hunted. His adventurous spirit guided him through his formative years, culminating in his graduation from Tracy High School in 1958.
After completing his education, John ventured to Boise, ID, joining his brother Andrew at Morrison Knutson Construction. Following his passion, he pursued broadcasting, honing his skills at a school in California before returning to Boise, where he contributed his expertise as an Engineer at KTVB-TV.
In 1969, John embraced a new chapter, marrying Patricia (Pat) Alexander and nurturing a blended family of four children: Tracy, Tyke, Tom, and Todd. A consummate entrepreneur, he earned several copyrights for his inventive creations, and his ventures ranged from Dorsey Drycleaning and Laundromat to Chief Latah Drycleaning, and later, Alpine Sports, which he proudly owned for two decades.
Retiring from Alpine Sports, John embarked on a new journey as a real estate agent at Caldwell Bankers in Boise. Yet, his passion for storytelling remained undiminished. He authored “Buried in The Heartland,” a testament to his deep roots and connection to his hometown, Tracy. In addition to his published work, John was in the midst of crafting three children’s books, showcasing his boundless creativity.
He was preceded in death by his wife Patricia De Blieck, his son Todd Alexander, his parents Grace and Julius De Blieck , brothers James, Thomas and Donald.
John is survived by his cherished children, Tracy Thompson, Tyke De Blieck, Tom Alexander (Kathy), and his loyal canine companion, Petey. He is also lovingly remembered by his siblings: MaryAnn Schumacher (Wyoming, MN), Andrew De Blieck (Clovis, CA), Walt De Blieck (Boise, ID), Robert De Blieck (Mary) (Circle Pines, MN), Judy Wilson (Cannon Falls, MN), Anne Dudley (Burnsville, MN), and Carol Smith (Rancho Mirage, CA). Eight grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren carry on his legacy. He was visited with his best friend Dave Domka who was a huge support in his life and came to his home almost daily.
With John’s passing, he joins his son Todd Alexander, his parents Grace and Julius De Blieck, and his brothers James, Thomas, and Donald in eternal rest.
John De Blieck’s legacy is one of industriousness, creativity, and unwavering dedication to family. His memory will forever be cherished by those fortunate enough to know him, and his words will continue to inspire generations to come.
