James Stanley Voorhees
October 20, 1947 – February 15, 2025, Meridian, Idaho
James (Jim) Stanley Voorhees, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on February 15, 2025, in Meridian, Idaho, at the age of 77.
Born and raised in Poplar, Montana, James was the son of Robert (Bud) and Marjorie Voorhees. He was proud to have been a member of the Poplar community, and his legacy lives on through his family and the many people he touched throughout his life. He is survived by his devoted wife of 57 years, René; daughters Kari and Kelly; sons-in-law Brandon Burns and Doug Case; He was a proud Poppa to grandchildren Keely, James, Lilly, Kennedy, and Sedona. He is also survived by his sisters, Iris and Jean Anne, and his brother and sisters-in-law, Ed Randol, Tim and Melinda Randol, and Gary Schneider.
James graduated from Montana State University in 1970 with a bachelor’s degree in accounting, a milestone that marked the beginning of a fulfilling career and a lifelong passion for learning and growing.
James’ professional journey spanned over 40 years, including 30 years with Morrison Knudsen Co., 5 years with Hansen Rice, and 5 years with Canyon County Highway District. His work ethic and dedication were a testament to his character, and his contributions left a lasting impact on his community.
Beyond his career, James had a passion for life. He was known as the (raging bull) in the pits at Meridian Speedway, where he supported his beloved wife as she raced. He found joy in golfing and spending time with friends. After retirement, he enjoyed his weekly Tuesday coffee gatherings with his fellow Mkayans, where he cherished the camaraderie and reminisced on his time at MK.
The most important part of Jim’s life was his wife, René. They met in 1966 at MSU and married in 1967. Jim and René travelled the world for the next 57 years and built a family, expanding the width and breadth of their love immeasurably. The family will never be the same without Jim, but will always carry his humor, attitude, and zest for life.
In his retirement, James relished in the simple pleasures of life-spending time with his family, and reflecting on a life well-lived. He will be deeply missed, but the memories of time spent laughing with him will remain with the family forever.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 pm, on Thursday, February 27, 2025, at Bowman Funeral Parlor, 10254 W. Carlton Bay Dr. in Garden City.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions in Jims’ name be made to the Shriners Hospitals For Children: https://lovetotherescue.org/how-you-can-help/ways-to-give?gad_source=1&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIl9LR7azOiwMVIwutBh12_DLcEAAYASADEgKrqfD_BwE
