Janice Lorene Blumberg
June 30, 1947 – January 27, 2025
Janice Lorene Blumberg, known to those who loved her as Jan, peacefully passed away on January 27, 2025, at the age of 77.
Jan was born on June 30, 1947, in Emmett, Idaho, to Vincent and Ellen Jayo. She grew up in Burns and Hines, Oregon. She was a dedicated tomboy, played volleyball for the Burns Highlanders and tagged along with her big brother, Doug on his adventures.
Jan’s horizons broadened after high school when she went to work at the Central Oregon Job Corps. There, she met and fell in love with David Blumberg. They married in 1966 and began an interesting and diverse professional and family life together. Son Jason was born in Bozeman, Montana, in 1973 and daughter Jayme followed in 1976 in West Lafayette, Indiana.
Then came successive assignments for Morrison Knudsen in Hardin, Montana, Boise and then an interstate highway mega-project in Washington state. Co-workers at MK loved Jan’s infectious smile, can-do professionalism and personable demeanor.
Jan was a woman of fortitude. She loved to fish with Dave in his drift boat on the Madison and Henry’s Fork rivers, drew a big game tag for a mountain goat and focused on training by cramming rocks in her backpack and pockets and climbing the bleachers at BSU’s Bronco Stadium. Rugged and ready, she got her goat.
The Blumbergs relocated to Idaho Falls when Dave went on to work at the Idaho National Laboratory. Jan dove into gardening and continued her career as a real estate agent and boutique lighting owner.
Dave and Jan built their rural dream home in Sweet, Idaho in retirement. They became cow-whisperers and almost never left home because their cattle might get lonesome.
Jan was a woman of deep faith and joyful warmth. She loved fellowship with friends, church community and in the beauty of God’s creation. She enjoyed spending time outdoors, whether hunting, camping, or simply enjoying nature’s peace. She also had a passion for pottery, creating pieces that reflected her warmth and creativity. Above all, she adored her grandsons, Parker, Ben, and Eli, who brought her endless joy and laughter.
Jan is survived by her devoted husband, David; her son, Jason Blumberg, and his wife, Kara, along with their three sons, Parker, Ben and Eli; her daughter, Jayme Dunne; and her siblings, Douglas Jayo (married to Dee) and Gae Peyron (married to Scott). She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend who will be deeply missed.
A celebration of Jan’s life will be held at Bowman Funeral Home in Garden City, Idaho on Wednesday, February 5, 2025 with a visitation beginning at 11:00 am, followed by a funeral service at 12:00. Jan will be interred at the Sweet Cemetery after the service. Her family invites all who knew and loved her to join in honoring her memory.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to resident enrichment programs at Paramount Parks in Eagle, Idaho, in Jan’s memory. With deepest gratitude we thank the staff at Paramount Parks and Keystone Hospice for their extensive and loving care of Jan in her final years.
