James William Gurney of Boise, ID, returned home to his Heavenly Father, in the early morning hours of January 1, 2024. He passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family, following a courageous battle with Acute Myeloid Leukemia. He was 59.
James was born on February 25, 1964 to Wayne and Julia (Stokes) Gurney in Emmett, ID. The youngest of five children, James grew up in Fruitland, ID where he graduated in 1982. Following graduation, he earned an associates degree in electronics from Links Business College. This prepared him for his career as a Copy Technician, where he served over 30 years, until his retirement in 2022. James was well respected in his field for his integrity, hard work, and expertise.
James was a devoted husband and father that always put his family first. In 1991, he married his sweetheart Ellen Light, for time and all eternity in the Boise Idaho Temple. His greatest joy was being a father to his two children, Bryce and Megan. They raised their family in Boise, where they built cherished friendships through years of dedicated church service.
James treasured time with his family creating memories. He cherished any opportunity to camp in Cascade, visit around the campfire, or gather for a quiet, non competitive game of cards. He was a devoted Boise State football and basketball fan.
James is survived by his wife Ellen, children Bryce and Megan, siblings Debra (Craig) Huntsman, Mike (Brenda) Gurney, Brent (Marie) Gurney, Steve (Bobbi) Gurney, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family and friends that will miss him dearly. He is preceded in death by his parents.
The Gurney family wishes to express their deepest gratitude for the exceptional care provided by the team at St. Luke’s Cancer Institute-Center for Blood Cancer Therapy, throughout James’ cancer battle. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Luke’s Cancer Institute-Center for Blood Cancer. A special thank you to the Timber Creek and Great Sky Wards for the ministering and service the family has received.
Funeral Services will be held on Monday, January 8, 2024 at 11:00 a.m.,in the Timber Creek Ward Chapel, 7200 Duncan Lane, Boise, ID 83714. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 9:30 to 10:30 am. Interment following at Dry Creek Cemetery in Boise, Idaho.
