James David Whiteside, 83, of Boise passed away May 10, 2026. Born in 1942 to James Henry Whiteside, Jr. and Evelyn Heatley Whiteside, David grew up in Lubbock, Texas where he was an outstanding student and athlete. He worked many jobs throughout his youth including newspaper delivery, helping his father at the family feedlot, and planting hay. He graduated with honors from Lubbock High School in 1961, where he also starred on the pitching mound. He attended college at the University of Texas, where he played baseball and was a member of the Phi Delta Theta fraternity. He graduated in 1965, then began a career that would see him working in numerous fields.

He worked in ranching, finance, linen supply, commercial laundry management, sales, and corporate management prior to his retirement in 2012. He married Mary Charles Milam in 1964, Melinda Austin in 1978, and Melanie Barsotti in 1990. He lived in Texas, California, New Mexico, and Idaho during his 83 years. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Tom Whiteside of Lubbock, and sister Rosemary Henderson of Claremont, California. He is survived by many children and grandchildren.

David was a born leader with a magnetic personality. He was adventurous, fun-loving, energetic, intelligent, and athletic. He loved hunting, fishing, golf, raising animals, and most of all spending time with his good friends.

Donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Arrangements are under the direction of Bowman Funeral Parlor of Garden City.
