James (Jim) Clifford Stubbs was born August 3,1950 in Loma Linda, California. He passed away peacefully on March 9, 2026, at noon from Alzheimer's Disease. Jim grew up in San Bernardino, California with foothills and orchards for a backyard. He and his big brother, Bill, roamed wild with a pack of neighborhood kids in a close-knit community of friends and family. Jim often remarked how blessed he was to have a warm and nurturing mother, Halliette Hunt Stubbs, who was also a Montessori teacher. His beloved “Grandma Mom,” Lucille Hunt, lived just down the street.

Jim worked at his family's garden center from an early age and gained a strong work ethic while displaying a natural ability to stash away his hard-earned money. He bought a Volkswagen van which served him well for trips to the beach and going to concerts at the Swing Auditorium, where Jim Morrison once helped him and his friends sneak into the back door. He graduated from Pacific High School in1968 and began his free spirit, ski bum years, living and working in Jackson, Wyoming for over a decade. During his early twenties he learned transcendental meditation and often attended advanced meditation courses when he wasn't skiing or working construction. He developed a life-long meditation practice that was his anchor and key to his inner peace and personal growth. He met Cathy Clark (Kate Lynde) in 1979 at a meditation course and thus began his marriage and years as a father. He became step-father to Mercedes and in 1980, his daughter Hallie was born, followed by the birth of Jane in 1984. Jim loved being a dad and was a proud and hands-on father. He coached Jane's softball team and encouraged his daughters to pursue and achieve whatever they dreamed. Jim and Kate divorced after 10 years of marriage, and continued a friendship and shared parenting. They often shared holidays and important events as a family.

Jim started working at CM Company during this time and in the course of his long career with CM Company he became a Construction Superintendent. He often commented that he was blessed to be a part of such a great company and he had tremendous admiration and respect for Ray Hoobing and Dennis Robinson, co-owners of the company. Jim loved his work and some of his noteworthy building projects include the Washington Mutual Capital Plaza (now Chase Tower), the College of Western Idaho campus (now BSU-Nampa), the Interactive Learning Center at BSU, Our Lady of the Rosary Catholic Church, and the remodels of Boise High School and St. Mary's Catholic Church. Jim was known on the job sites for his humor, good nature, strong relationships, and attention to detail. He retired from CM Company in 2012.

Jim met Jean Jewell in 1999, which started a partnership that was marked by mutual respect, shared interests, and love and care for one another. They shared the same spiritual and meditation practice and love for skiing and exploring the outdoors. In retirement, they were able to travel internationally and explore Idaho and the Oregon Coast. Jean loved and cared for Jim even as Alzheimer's disease slowly took away his ability to communicate and remember how to do daily tasks. His indomitable spirit continued to shine right up to the end and he often commented that he had experienced a lot of grace in his life. Some of his last words were “beautiful” and “good.”

Family and friends in turn feel blessed to have known Jim in this life. He livened up any room that he walked into and always showed a genuine interest in people. When he was engaged in conversation with you, he had the ability to make you feel like you were the most important person in the room. He was deeply spiritual, self reflective, curious and a warm, charismatic person with a good sense of humor. He had the most incredible, infectious laugh and a smile that lit up his whole face. He had a natural talent for construction, and designed and built his own home in the early 1990’s. He enjoyed reading about history, learning about the stock market, gardening, and watching movies.

Jim is preceded in death by his parents, Maurice Garver Stubbs, Jr., and Halliette Hunt Stubbs. He is survived by his sister Janice Jordan, his brother William Stubbs (Paula), his daughters Hallie Carpenter (Jas) and Jane Panatopoulos (Nic); step-daughter Mercedes Cardoza (Chris) and nine grandchildren: Kieran, Flynn, and Ollie Carpenter; Taylor, Mia and Ellie Panatopoulos, and Marlowe, Greer and Fae Cardoza. He is also survived by his life partner, Jean Jewell, and her family: Eilen Jewell (Blake), Ed Jewell (Mary), Jason Beek, and grandchildren Mavis Beek, Eloise Jewell, and Zoe Jewell.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Arrangements will be through Bowman Funeral.

Jim’s family would like to thank the staff at Cornerstone Senior Living and Keystone Hospice for the compassionate care they provided for Jim and his family in his last month of life.

Arrangements are under the direction of Bowman Funeral Parlor of Garden City.
