James Wayne Lynskey, a distinguished figure in law enforcement and military service, passed away on October 6, 2025, peacefully surrounded by his family.
Born on March 8, 1947, in Nampa, Idaho, Lynskey joined the United States Navy in 1965, where he served valiantly in the Vietnam conflict. His exceptional service earned him numerous medals, marking his first-time recognition for his bravery.
In 1968, Lynskey was selected to lead the Narcotic Interdiction team in the Pacific, where he collaborated with his loyal narcotics dog, Jesse James. After his honorable discharge from the Navy, Lynskey and Jesse James embarked on their careers in law enforcement with the Nevada Department of Narcotics and Investigation.
Lynskey’s dedication extended beyond his law enforcement duties. He held the esteemed positions of president of both the Nevada and California Narcotics Officer Associations. Additionally, he served as a member of the Aviation Smuggler Association and the Idaho Peace Officers Association.
Lynskey’s unwavering commitment to his community led him to be inducted into the Police Officers Hall of Fame. Tragically, he was the first police officer to receive a diagnosis of PTSD after experiencing the loss of two partners within a two-month period.
Lynskey’s passions lay in gardening, hunting, fishing, and spending time with his beloved pets, Cuddles and Lil Bit. His furry companions eagerly await his return and will greet him with joyous wagging tails.
Lynskey’s adventurous spirit led him to embark on numerous travels, exploring the majority of the 50 states.
In a poignant turn of events, Lynskey became a mentor to the Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors (TAPS) after the tragic suicide of his son, Daniel, a former army ranger who served in Iraq and the Enduring Freedom war.
James Wayne Lynskey’s legacy will continue to inspire generations of law enforcement professionals and military personnel alike. His unwavering courage, dedication, and unwavering spirit will forever be etched in the annals of history.
