James “Jim” Elmer Moyer, 85, of Meridian, Idaho, passed away peacefully on February 24, 2026.
Jim was born in East Ely, Nevada, to Elmer Freeland Moyer and Verna Ruth Prince Moyer. His parents were there for only 6 months for work. They moved back to Gooding, and he had a happy childhood with siblings and cousins. He graduated from Gooding High School, where he was Student Body President, played basketball, and was involved in many activities, including rodeo club. He later attended Boise State University and Brigham Young University.
Jim served a 2½-year mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Netherlands. On July 31, 1965, he married Peggy Giambo in the Idaho Falls Idaho Temple. Together they built a life centered on faith, family, and hard work. They raised 5 children, 4 boys and 1 girl. All the children were involved in many activities, especially sports, where Jim enjoyed attending games and performances.
Jim worked for CH2M Engineers before starting his own business, Moyer Sprinkler, which later became Irrigation Design. Through the Irrigation Association’s testing and accreditation programs, he became a certified landscape irrigation auditor, and a certified irrigation designer. Some of the projects he worked on included; Kathryn Albertson Park, the Boise LDS temple, Spurwing Country Club, and several subdivisions. He was appointed, then served as Chairman, for the SW Idaho Basin Advisory Group for water quality for ID Dept of Environmental Quality. In 2018, he was selected as the Idaho Irrigation Equipment Association's Person of the Year.
He loved the outdoors and enjoyed hunting, fishing, photography, and spending time with quarter horses, including his beloved Mister and Heidi. Known for his playful personality, he even performed as a clown for bull riding events in high school and BYU, and could often be seen riding his unicycle.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Myrna Olson, and his grandson Roman J. Moyer. He is survived by his wife, Peggy Giambo; his children Todd (Shawna), Casey (Caitlin), Tyler (Alysson),Tawni, and Dustin (Kortney); and his grandchildren Lexi, Tyrus, Wyatt, Alex, Taven, Anthony, Kevin, Londyn, Luke, Dallin, and Harrison.
A funeral service will be held, 11:00 am, Friday, March 6, 2026 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 3775 E. Ustick Rd., Meridian, Idaho, with a visitation beginning at 10:00 am. A committal service will follow at Meridian, Cemetery, 895 E. Franklin Rd., Meridian, Idaho.
