James "Jim" H. Martin

James "Jim" Martin, 76, of Emmett, Idaho, passed away surrounded by the love of his family. Jim was born on May 6, 1950, in Cañon City, Colorado, to Leota (Carroll) Martin. Although his early years began in Colorado, Jim was raised in California, where he graduated from Santa Ynez Valley High School. Shortly after graduation, he proudly answered the call to serve his country in the United States Army from 1970 to 1972, earning the distinction of Expert Rifle.

On March 19, 1972, Jim married the love of his life, Diane (Clarke) Martin, at Ballard Presbyterian Church. Together they built a marriage filled with love, hard work, and adventure that spanned more than five decades.

Jim and Diane began their life together in Santa Barbara, California. A few years later they relocated to Everett, Washington, where they raised their family and spent 18 years. Eventually, they made Emmett, Idaho, their home, where they lived for the past 32 years and where their family continues to reside.

Jim was known for his incredible work ethic and entrepreneurial spirit. He first worked for a cedar log home company in Washington before moving to Emmett, where he and several colleagues founded American Craftsman Homes, a log home construction business. Later in life, Jim worked as a utility locator, covering five counties throughout his service area. He took pride in every job he did and was respected for his reliability and dedication.

Outside of work, Jim was happiest with his hands busy and his family nearby. He loved camping and fishing, rebuilding classic cars, woodworking, and welding in his beloved "Flip Flop Weld Shop." Friends and family also knew him as a master around the barbecue, spending countless hours perfecting meals on his smoker. Whether he was creating something in his shop, restoring an old vehicle, or enjoying the outdoors, Jim found joy in building, fixing, and sharing those experiences with the people he loved.

Above all, Jim treasured his family. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and uncle whose quiet strength, steady guidance, and generous heart will be deeply missed.

Jim is survived by his beloved wife, Diane (Clarke) Martin; his son, James F. Martin and wife Beth, along with granddaughters Briana and Allana; his son, Chuck Martin and wife Jonna; and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his beloved twin brother, Jack Martin; and his aunt and uncle, Floyd and Esther Knapp, who lovingly raised Jim and Jack from the age of five.

In keeping with Jim's love for animals, memorial contributions may be made to the Pet Adoption League of Emmett, Idaho.

Jim will be remembered for his unwavering work ethic, his ability to build just about anything, his love of the outdoors, and the deep devotion he showed to his family throughout his life. His legacy lives on in the lives he touched, the memories he created, and the family who will forever cherish him.
