James "Jim" Dalton Lyons

February 26, 1949 — December 17, 2025

Boise

James Dalton "Jim" Lyons, aged 76, passed away on December 17, 2025, at the Boise State Veterans Home in Boise, Idaho. Born on February 26, 1949, in Mesa, Arizona, Jim was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend who left an indelible mark on the lives of those around him.

Jim joined the U.S. Marine Corps in 1966. He deployed to Vietnam and fought at Que Son and Hue City. He was injured in battle, and his sacrifice was recognized with the Purple Heart. The war had a profound effect on Jim's life.

When he returned stateside, he sought the stability of work and a family. He met the love of his life, Judy Henderson of Surrey, BC, while she vacationed on Oahu, Hawaii. They married in 1970, started a family in Washington State, and moved to North Pole, Alaska, in 1984.

Jim dedicated many years as a service technician for the Sears Corporation in Fairbanks, Alaska, and later in Redding, California. Known as a guy who could fix anything, he had a particular passion for rebuilding cars.

Jim loved the outdoors, regularly camping, fishing, kayaking, and bicycling. He loved 60s and 70s action movies and saw anything with John Wayne as peak American film making. Jim loved to read in his later years, exploring the world and history through books.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Judy (Henderson) Lyons; daughter Marcy (Mark) Rein; sons Kristopher (Dalia) Lyons and Kevin (Erika) Lyons; grandchildren Ethan, Samuel (Cassandra), Chelsea, Amelia, Kyra, Kaya, Keane, Luke, Jenna, Sophia, and Emily; brother Sonny, and many extended family members. He is preceded in death by his parents, Frances and Floyd Lyons; siblings Carl, John, Frankie, and Pamela Lyons; and granddaughter Lauren Rein.

The family would like to extend its sincere gratitude to the staff at the Boise State Veterans Home for the compassionate care they provided to Jim throughout his stay. The staff became an unexpected second family, offering both comfort and support, and the care Jim received was truly meaningful and deeply appreciated by all who loved him.

Jim's life was a testament to resilience and hard work. He overcame adversity to build a family he loved deeply, and we love and will miss him. Forever. Semper Fidelis.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Jim's memory can be made to the Family Advocate Program, Inc. (familyadvocates.org) or the Challenged Athletes Foundation (challengedathletes.org), organizations that reflect his spirit of resilience.
